In recent years,with the aging population and miniaturization of family structure in China,more and more elderly people live separately from their children,resulting in these elderly people becoming empty nest elderly.Compared with ordinary elderly people,empty nest elderly lack the company of their children,and they are prone to psychological problems due to their long solitude.The most common psychological problem is emotional loneliness.With the continuous development of contemporary economy,especially in the case of abundant material conditions in cities,the pace of life and changes in social structure have led some elderly people feel at a loss for the society,the change of social roles after retirement,the indifference of community relations in cities,and the fact that their children can’t accompany the elderly for work reasons,so the empty nest elderly in urban communities are more likely to feel emotional loneliness.Most of these empty nest elderly don’t like to go out and socialize.Their hobbies are single and boring,and they often feel that life is boring.In the long run,this kind of people will suffer from severe emotional loneliness or depression,and even worse,they will feel world-weary and commit suicide.It is an extremely important and urgent social task to help these empty nest elderly get rid of emotional loneliness.Therefore,it is of great social significance to study and the empty nest elderly who face emotional loneliness.Based on this background,this study,from the perspective of social work,based on the internship experience in the N community of Zhengzhou,used group work to intervene in the emotional loneliness of the elderly in urban communities.During the internship process,we got a basic understanding of the empty nest elderly in this community through questionnaires and interviews.The survey found that the economic income of the empty nesters in community N is generally good,but there are more common problems,namely lack of emotional support,insufficient sense of belonging to the community,lack of self-confidence and self-identity and other problems that need to be addressed.In response to the current needs of the empty nesters in this community,the author conducted seven group activities to achieve the aim of helping the empty nesters in the N community to escape from their emotional loneliness and face their old age positively.An evaluation of the practice found that the group activities achieved the expected goals and had good results.
