Children are immature individuals, reading is the path for children to achieve their own life growth through the interaction between media technology and the world of cultural symbols. The body is the bridge between children and reading. The development of the information age has brought about dramatic changes in the form of media. In the face of the coming digital reading, the idea of replacing traditional paper reading with the power of the technological revolution is too ideal and biased. It is also a questionable approach to view digital reading as a threat to paper reading before fully utilizing its advantages.Facing the "reading crisis" caused by the digital trend, building a new ecosystem of children’s reading from a physical perspective, allowing children to independently choose suitable reading media and achieve a pleasant reading experience,is an urgent task.Through the physical phenomenology and media communication theory, this paper preliminarily explores the characteristics of children’s digital reading and paper reading from the perspective of the physical, explores the role of the body in digital reading and paper reading, and clarifies the important value of the body in children’s reading. On this basis,a survey questionnaire on Children’s Digital and Paper Reading from the Perspective of the Physical was compiled, supplemented by interview surveys, combining quantitative and qualitative research to comprehensively present the current situation of children’s digital and paper reading from the perspective of the physical and propose strategic suggestions. The specific research results are as follows:1.The physical plays an important role in children’s reading.Children’s digital reading cognition is at a high level, and the subject group has a clear understanding and ability to use digital reading;Children’s understanding of paper reading is at a high level, and the subject group has a clear understanding and ability to use paper reading;Children’s physical self-awareness is at a moderate to lower level, indicating that they cannot perceive their physical reading experience well while reading, and their physical self-awareness needs further development.2.Differences in Demographic Variables between Children’s Digital Reading and Paper Reading from a Physical PerspectiveThe cognitive dimension of children’s digital reading has significant differences in the oral variables of age and grade, while there is no significant difference in the oral variables of gender and parents’ highest education. The older and higher the grade of a child, the higher their cognitive level of digital reading. The cognitive dimension of children’s paper reading has significant differences in the three oral variables of age, grade and the highest educational background of parents, while there is no significant difference in the demography variables of gender. The older a child is,the higher their grade, the higher their parents’ highest education level, and the higher their cognitive level of paper reading. The physical self-perception dimension of children has significant differences in the three oral variables of age, grade and the highest educational background of parents, while there is no significant difference in the demography variables of gender. The older a child is,the higher their grade, the higher their parents’ highest education level, and the higher their level of physical self-awareness.3.Further guidance on children’s digital and paper reading needs to be strengthened(1)The most commonly used reading medium for children is paper text, but some children also frequently use tablets and mobile phones for digital reading. The text and content read by children on different media are almost identical.(2)In terms of reading space, children tend to engage in paper reading at their desks, while in digital reading, they tend to engage in diverse settings.(3)In terms of reading time, children cannot achieve their ideal weekly digital reading time, while paper reading time can achieve the ideal state.Children will feel tired during both digital and paper reading within two hours.(4)In terms of reading methods, children’s digital reading remains simple "reading",while paper reading is a combination of reading and writing.(5)In terms of reading effectiveness, most children’s digital reading results in having no impression of the content or being able to remember the main content, while paper reading is mostly able to remember the main content and think deeply about the content.Based on the current survey results, propose strategies and suggestions for children’s digital reading and paper reading from a physical perspective, including:Firstly, form a correct understanding and choice between digital reading and paper reading: clarify the consistency of the core of digital reading and paper reading;recognize the characteristics of digital reading and paper reading;make reasonable choices between them.Secondly, strategic suggestions for children’s paper reading: creating a comfortable spatiotemporal environment;Selected reading content;Emphasize the physical experience while reading.Thirdly, strategic suggestions for children’s digital reading: changing cognitive errors in digital reading;Respect children’s digital reading needs;Create a secure digital reading environment.Fourthly, strategic suggestions for children’s digital and paper reading from a physical perspective: reshaping children’s subjectivity;Cultivate children’s meta reading ability; To be a co reader of children’s reading;Build a composite reading ecosystem.
