With the development of the times,China pays more and more attention to the cultivation of talents in colleges and universities, and relevant policies are frequently released to further strengthen the construction of a strong higher education country and provide strong support for the quality cultivation of talents in colleges and universities. As the evaluation index of students’ academic achievement and the prediction index of higher education quality, learning engagement affects the quality of talents cultivated by higher education schools. As a relatively special group of college students, the degree of study engagement of physical education students is a key element to determine academic competitiveness and employment competitiveness, and further relates to whether they are expected to become the sports talents needed by society. However, the quality of learning presented by current physical education students in some colleges and universities is unsatisfactory. In addition, there are relatively few relevant studies that have explored the role of achievement goal orientation, career decision-making self-efficacy and learning engagement effects. In response to this situation, this study links the three variables of achievement goal orientation, career decision-making self-efficacy and learning engagement, and aims to investigate the real situation and internal influence mechanisms of the three variables and make corresponding suggestions,so as to guide undergraduate physical education students to establish good achievement goal orientation and career choice efficacy, and provide new educational ideas to improve the level of learning engagement of undergraduate physical education students.Based on this, this study used literature, questionnaires, and mathematical statistics as the starting point, and selected the Four-point Achievement Goal Orientation Scale, the Career Decision-making Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Learning Engagement Scale as the measurement tools. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive analysis, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, multiple stepwise regression analysis and mediating effect test through statistical software such as SPSS26.0 and PROCESS.The following conclusions were drawn from the study:(1)The achievement goal orientations of physical education undergraduates was generally at the upper middle level, with significant differences in gender, grade, major, and whether they were student leaders,i.e.,male students were higher than female students in the achievement convergence, mastery convergence, and achievement avoidance dimensions;fourth-year students had higher achievement goal orientations than other grades;physical education, athletic training, and social sports guidance majors had higher achievement goal orientations than other physical education majors;and students who were student leaders had higher achievement convergence dimensions than non-student leaders.(2)The career decision-making self-efficacy of physical education undergraduates was generally at an upper-middle level, with significant differences in gender, grade, major, place of origin, and whether they were student leaders,i.e.,male students were higher than female students only in the dimension of information collection;senior and first-year students were higher than sophomores and juniors in career choice efficacy;physical education and social sports guidance majors were higher than athletic training and other physical education majors in career choice efficacy;urban students were higher than rural students in career choice efficacy;and students who were student leaders were higher than non-student leaders only in the dimension of self-evaluation.(3)The learning engagement of physical education undergraduates was generally at a moderate to low level, with significant differences in gender, grade, major, place of origin and whether they are student leaders,i.e.,female students have higher learning commitment and motivation dimensions than male students;the comparison of the differences in learning commitment among different grades shows a "U" trend, with senior and first-year students having higher learning commitment and sophomores and juniors having lower learning commitment.Students of physical education and social sports guidance majors have higher learning commitment than students of sports training and other sports majors;students from rural areas are higher than students from urban areas only in motivation dimensions;students who are student leaders have higher motivation and energy dimensions than non-student leaders.(4)There were two significant correlations between achievement goal orientation, career decision-making self-efficacy and learning engagement among physical education undergraduates.Among them, achievement convergence, mastery convergence and achievement avoidance goal orientation positively predicted career decision-making selfefficacy and learning engagement;achievement avoidance goal orientation negatively predicted career decision-making self-efficacy and learning engagement;and career decision-making self-efficacy positively predicted learning engagement among physical education undergraduates.(5)The career decision-making self-efficacy of physical education undergraduates played an intermediary role between achievement goal and learning commitment. That is,The achievement goal orientations of physical education undergraduates can not only directly and positively influence learning engagement, but also indirectly influence learning engagement through the mediating variable of career decision-making selfefficacy.
