STEAM is the acronym for the five disciplines of Science,Technology,Engineering,Arts,and Mathematics.It is an education concept that focuses on discipline integration.In this thesis,the author studied and practiced on the STEAM education concept and the design of music activities guided by this concept,which aims to explore new ways to reform the teaching methods of the music curriculum in primary schools.The key problem to be addressed in this thesis is how to carry out reform and innovation of discipline integration for the music curriculum in primary schools.In this thesis,the author explored the core competencies that STEAM cultivates for students,how music teaching can be organically integrated with other disciplines,and how core competencies and teaching objectives can be achieved in the teaching design.On the basis of interpreting the STEAM concept,the author sorted out the advantages and disadvantages of traditional education concepts and STEAM through in-depth research and employing methods such as literature research,practical research,questionnaires and interviews.Moreover,the current situation of traditional music curriculum was analyzed,and the reconstruction methods and principles for the reform of discipline integration for the music curriculum were proposed.Based on these methods,the author conducted teaching design and experiments for his music classes in the primary school and then he analyzed the effectiveness of the entire process of these teaching experimental cases.The research shows that music activities guided by STEAM not only help promote interdisciplinary integration so that student can learn from the music curriculum thoroughly and vividly.It is also helpful to cultivate students’ ability to think independently and innovate,and improve their ability to solve practical problems with interdisciplinary knowledge.By analyzing domestic and foreign teaching cases and the author’s own teaching experiments,the author believes that applying STEAM education concept to music classes in primary schools is a new perspective for music teaching reform,which has positive significance for research and practice in this field.
