University entrance examination is an important way to select talents in many countries.Its knowledge scope and difficulty have attracted widespread attention from all over the world.A comparative study of university entrance examination papers in different countries has gained some enlightenment on high school mathematics teaching and test propositions.It is beneficial to learn from each other and promote the reform of high school mathematics education.Mathematics is an important subject in the university entrance examinations of China and Laos,but there is no comparative study on the test questions.What is the current situation of the knowledge scope and difficulty of the test questions for university entrance in the two countries? What enlightenment can be obtained through comparative research? All are issues that require research.According to the mathematics curriculum standards and comprehensive difficulty model of China’s compulsory education and senior high school,the Mathematics Paper A(Science)of the Unified Entrance Examination for General Higher Education in China in 2021 and 2022,and the Mathematics for the National University of Laos’ 2021 and 2022 University Entrance Examination Paper(Science),from the scope of knowledge,difficulty factors of the seven aspects of the test questions,comprehensive difficulty and other aspects of comparative analysis;and use these four test papers to test two classes of students in the third grade of a school in Laos,and the test results conducted a comparative study.The following three conclusions were obtained:In terms of the scope of knowledge,the Lao test papers all involve directly examining the test questions in the fields of "Number and Algebra" and "Graphics and Geometry" in junior high schools;The proportion of investigation is higher than that of the Chinese paper,and the proportion of the field of "geometry and algebra" is lower than that of the Chinese paper;the proportion of investigation of the field of "statistics and probability" in the two papers is not high.In terms of the comprehensive difficulty of the test questions,the reasoning ability and other factors of the Chinese paper and the comprehensive difficulty are higher than those of the Lao paper;the difficulty of each factor and the comprehensive difficulty of the two Chinese papers are relatively stable,while the two Lao papers are quite different.In terms of test results,similar to the evaluation results of the difficulty model,the test results also show that the difficulty of the Chinese paper is higher than that of the Lao paper.Based on comparative research,the following enlightenment has been obtained in the two aspects of college entrance examination proposition and high school mathematics teaching:Pay attention to the teaching of basic knowledge,build and improve the knowledge network;strengthen the cultivation of students’ computing ability;pay attention to problem situations and promote the improvement of students’ comprehensive quality;further grasp the difficulty of highlevel examination questions;Laos should formulate guidance documents for middle school teaching(curriculum standards for each subject);Laos should strengthen the research on the question type of the college entrance examination.
