| Medieval universities are the prototype of modern universities.Up to now,the academic research on medieval universities has been quite rich,but its focus is mainly on the origin,organization and management of universities,while the investigation of university teachers is relatively thin.As the economic basis of teachers’ survival and life,income has relatively low academic attention.However,teachers’ income is not only the key to investigate the medieval teachers,but also an important perspective to understand the organization,operation,internal management and external relations of medieval universities.Based on it,this study will focus on the income of Paris University teachers in the13th-15 th century,using the research methods of historical data analysis,supplemented by interdisciplinary research methods,empirical analysis,text analysis,comparison,etc.At the same time,this study will absorb the excellent research results of the academic circles on medieval universities,medieval teachers and other related fields,focusing on the basic situation of Paris University,the general situation of Paris University teachers’ income,the comparison between Paris University and other universities in the same period,and the phenomenon reflected by Paris University teachers’ income.The first part mainly discusses the basic situation of Paris University before 15 th century.The year 1200 was the official formation time of Paris University.The teachers of Paris University had won many concessions for the university.The personnel and faculty composition of Paris University included guilds,nations,faculties and colleges.Paris University had certain particularity in the fields of politics and religion.The second part mainly discusses the general situation of teachers’ income in Paris University from 13 th to 15 th century.In the teachers’ group of Paris University,teachers with theocratic status could receive a stipend,while secular teachers could receive remuneration from students.Teachers in Paris University could also earn extra income through part-time,leasing,lending and fines.There was income inequality between teachers in advanced colleges and basic colleges.The third part mainly discusses the comparison of teachers’ income between Paris University,Bologna University and Oxford University in the same period.After sorting out the composition of teachers’ income in Bologna University and Oxford University respectively,it is found that the income of teachers in Paris University and Bologna University had more differences than similarities,and the income of teachers in Paris University and Oxford University had more similarities than differences.The fourth part mainly discusses the phenomenon reflected in the income of teachers at Paris University from the 13 th to the 15 th century.The income of teachers can be seen from the social status of Paris University teachers during this period,that is,actively participating in the church world,actively participating in political affairs,and occupying a place in the religious field,occupying an important position in the political field.In addition,teacher income can reflect their purchasing power.Teachers with relatively high incomes also have relatively high purchasing power,and their economic roles tend to be businessmen or nobles.However,teachers with relatively low incomes also have relatively low purchasing power levels,and may even seek employment elsewhere due to low incomes. |
