The quality of education is the core index to measure the performance of higher education institutions, and the quality of student development is the core link to ensure the quality of higher education. The traditional paradigm of higher education evaluation is mostly focused on the faculty strength, research funding and achievements of higher education institutions, which emphasize the "teaching quality",but the attention to the students, who are the stakeholders most closely connected with the quality of higher education,is not enough. As we all know, teaching is an organic interactive process including "teaching" of teachers and "learning" of students, and the ultimate goal of teaching is to make each student achieve all-round development, which is also the real embodiment of the goal of "developing high-quality education".This is the true embodiment of the goal of "developing quality education".Compared with the "teaching quality",the "learning quality" of students is more important.Based on the evaluation system of students’ subjectivity, learning engagement as one of the core concepts to measure the quality of higher education and students’ personal development has been widely discussed in the global education community. At present, research on the topic of learning engagement has focused on two aspects: theoretical connotations and influencing factors.A targeted study on the current situation and influencing factors of college students’ learning engagement will not only help to explore effective ways to promote students’ active engagement in learning activities and further improve their academic performance, but also help to improve the quality of talent cultivation.Among them, learning motivation as an important influential factor in understanding and enhancing college students’ engagement in learning has attracted more detailed exploration based on existing studies.Based on this research status, this study was guided by self-determination theory to investigate learning goal orientation and internal and external learning motivation as important motivational factors affecting college students’ learning engagement. This study mainly collected data by distributing an online questionnaire,"Survey on College Students’ Learning Engagement",to 587 undergraduate students in a ministerial teacher training college in C city through the Questionnaire Star platform.Based on the collected data, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis, significant difference test and structural equation model test were conducted on the three variables of college students’ learning goal orientation, learning motivation and learning engagement, and the results of the study were discussed and analyzed in depth. The results of descriptive statistics and correlation analysis showed that the three variables of goal orientation, motivation, and commitment to learning were significantly correlated with each other, and the overall scores of the subjects were in the middle to upper range. The significant difference test showed that there were only significant gender differences in the sub-dimensions of "mastery goal orientation" and "intrinsic motivation".The bootstrap mediated effect test using Amos 23.0 software revealed that there was a mediating effect between the motivation of the subjects and their learning goals orientation and learning engagement.Based on the findings of the mechanisms of learning motivation and learning engagement in the subject groups, this study proposes the following suggestions for improvement in each of the three variables.First, based on individual differences, students should be guided to pursue appropriate learning goals;second, taking into account the influencing factors, learning motivation should be cultivated in a balanced and dynamic manner;third, multiple initiatives should be taken in parallel to ensure effective improvement of learning engagement.
