In the 2022 edition of the Compulsory Mathematics Curriculum Standards, the core literacies in elementary and junior high schools have their own focus, but mathematical arithmetic skills are used throughout students’ compulsory education.Since the core literacy of mathematics has been proposed, the curriculum standards of both compulsory education and high school levels have emphasized arithmetic skills as one of the core literacies, which shows the importance of arithmetic skills. Therefore, many experts and scholars have explored and researched it,and obtained many noteworthy findings. In this study, the seventh grade students of a junior high school in Nanjing were taken as the research subjects through literature research method, questionnaire survey method, and test survey method. The research process was developed and the research framework was determined by combing the existing literature about the mathematical arithmetic ability of seventh grade students. The following conclusions were drawn from the survey and analysis:First, there are differences among students’ mathematical arithmetic ability levels. The largest number of students was located at Level 4,with 31 students, accounting for 34.44%;8 students were at Level 1 level, accounting for the least number of students, with 8.89%.Secondly,it is obvious that students still have some problems in mathematical operations, such as some students do not have a firm grasp of basic knowledge and do not develop good habits in mathematical operations.Third, the analysis was mainly from two perspectives, objective and subjective,to explore the factors influencing the mathematical operation ability of seventh grade students. The existing materials and the conclusions obtained were synthesized to suggest teaching suggestions for improving the mathematical operation ability of seventh grade students from multiple perspectives. In addition, this study was conducted with theoretical support and in conjunction with students’ existing knowledge levels,in the hope that it can contribute to subsequent educational researchers for reference.
