The high speed development of the Internet has brought great changes to people’s way of production, life and work, and the social network has a profound impact on the means and ways of communication between people. At present, when social media is over-connected,users frequently perceive negative burnout in the process of using social media, and appear to reduce the use time, quit the platform, shift positions and other behaviors, which will have a negative impact on users’ active use of social media. However, under the popularization and normal use of social media, users cannot really get rid of social media, and forced use of social media is more likely to breed user dissatisfaction. In this context, understanding the psychological mechanisms behind user burnout is important to help social media regain its vitality. This study takes wechat as the research platform and selects college students as the research object to explore the causes of social media burnout on wechat platform and the negative use behaviors. After reading and sorting out relevant literature,Cognition-Affect-Conation Pattern(CAC)was selected as the theoretical framework for the research. From the perspective of interpersonal communication,This paper explores social media burnout in context, relationship and process during online interpersonal communication,as well as negative usage behaviors, and builds an overall model for the study. This study selects the empirical analysis research method of first interview and then questionnaire to verify the constructed model and the proposed hypothesis.A total of 15 wechat users were interviewed in this study, and the influencing factors of college students’ wechat burnout were summarized as negative social comparison, personalization management, role expectation, intergenerational conflict, social overload, and privacy penetration. The questionnaire was designed on the basis of the maturity scale of previous scholars, and was modified and improved after small sample test to form a formal questionnaire for large-scale distribution.A total of 942 valid questionnaires were collected. The results show that negative social comparison, intergenerational conflict, social overload and privacy penetration positively affect social media use burnout, and social media burnout positively affects diving behavior, ignoring behavior, shielding behavior, tolerance behavior and withdrawal behavior, among which, tolerance behavior has the greatest impact. In addition,in the in-depth interview,it is found that the new generation of young users are more self-aware,pay more attention to self-feeling,and do not care about the management of people and role expectations. Finally, based on the research results, some suggestions are put forward for users’ benign use of wechat platform and wechat operators’ provision of better services.
