Thematic teaching has unique advantages over traditional single-part teaching,and the General High School Language Curriculum Standards(revised in 2017 and 2020)(later referred to as the "new standards")emphasize language learning in the form of thematic research studies from the students’ perspective,and from the teachers’ perspective,that is,through thematic teaching to implement Language learning task groups."The "Practical Reading and Communication" task group is a compulsory subject for high school students and is closely related to students’ real life.This paper uses the new curriculum’s "language construction and use" and "thinking development and enhancement" objectives.This paper explores the practical application of thematic teaching of practical texts by taking the three practical texts in the learning task group of "Practical Reading and Communication" in the new curriculum as examples,in order to enrich the teaching mode of practical texts and implement thematic teaching in the classroom,trying to provide some reference and inspiration for improving the thematic teaching mode.The introductory part introduces the origin of the study,the review of related studies,the value and significance of the study,and the research ideas and methods.The first chapter is an overview of the "Practical Reading and Communication" learning task group.The main purpose is to clarify the concept,learning objectives and contents of this task group,then analyze the teaching materials from the task group’s perspective to clarify the support of the practical text units in the teaching materials for the core language literacy,and finally compare the practical texts in the old and new standards to understand the requirements and suggestions of the new standards for teaching practical texts.Chapter 2 focuses on the current situation of teaching the "Practical Reading and Communication" learning task group in front-line teaching.It includes a description of the questionnaire,a statistical analysis of the survey results,and an analysis of the causes of the teaching problems of this task group.There are two questionnaires,covering both teachers and students,which cover attitudes toward teaching and learning practical texts,views on the development of teaching materials,willingness to teach and learn practical texts in a thematic format,and difficulties,etc.Based on these questionnaires,we analyze the causes and lay the foundation for the solutions in the following chapter.Chapter 3 is the thematic teaching path for the "Practical Reading and Communication" learning task group.Based on the first and second chapters,this paper proposes the thematic teaching principles for this task group,and then proposes the thematic teaching paths for the social interaction,news and media,and knowledge reading categories respectively.Chapter 4 is the design and implementation of the thematic teaching of the "practical reading and communication"learning task group.In this paper,we take social interaction texts as an example,and design and implement thematic teaching in Unit 5 of the second book of Compulsory Reading,which includes topic identification,topic preparation,topic teaching design,and topic teaching implementation.The teaching design of the third section is divided into three lessons:the first one is"Establishing the awareness of readers and cultivating the ability of targeted communication",the second one is"Tasting the language of the text and cultivating the art of language",and the third one is"Feeling the charm of personality and learning the personality of the person".Feel the charm of personality and learn the terms related to personality".The fifth chapter is a reflection and suggestion on teaching the topic of "Practical Reading and Communication".Through the analysis of students’ performance and results in class and interviews with students after class,it is concluded that students have accumulated certain knowledge of practical reading and have gained a preliminary understanding of the form and advantages of the topic teaching.The second is to reflect on the problems that emerged during the teaching of this topic,and to put forward three suggestions for improving the teaching of the topic.
