The demand for cultivating innovative talents in the new era,the requirement of developing students’ core competencies of Chinese subjects and the Chinese class that points to deep learning are all calling for the realization and breakthrough of problem-based learning of higher-order thinking in the Chinese subject.Problem-based learning for senior high school Chinese learning aims to drive students to use higher-order thinking to identify, clarify, solve, and reflect on the Chinese learning problems on their own.The study summarizes the literature related to higher-order thinking and problem-based learning in Chinese subject. It is found that Chinese higher-order thinking was defined from many perspectives but the subject features are not distinctive.Besides, the problem sources in Chinese problem-based learning are limited and the characteristics of higher-order thinking are not clear. In this study,a questionnaire survey is conducted with 352 high school students in 3 schools taking Chinese higher-order thinking cognition,Chinese higher-order thinking problem-based learning discovery, clarification, resolution, and reflection as the survey dimensions. At the same time,an interview protocol is formed with difficulties in carrying out problem-based learning of higher-order thinking in Chinese lessons and instructional strategies for the discovery, clarification, solution, and reflection sections, and three teachers are interviewed and investigated. The results indicate that senior high school students have a biased perception of higher-order thinking in the Chinese subject and are not competent in identifying, clarifying, solving and reflecting on Chinese problems. The teachers lack the refinement of instructional strategies in the above process, and the operability is poor. This study constructs a model of Chinese higher-order thinking based on Bloom’s theory of classification of educational objectives, combined with the Chinese core competencies presented by Chinese curriculum standards. In addition,a Chinese problem-based learning model is constructed based on the basic process of problem solving.Based on the results of the study,problem-based learning strategies for senior high school students to improve their Chinese higher-order thinking are proposed at last for different stages.A complete instructional case of improving Chinese higher-order thinking by problem-based learning for high school students is designed by synthesizing the whole research.
