In today’s rapidly developing science and technology, innovation has became the main theme of development for countries around the world.Cultivating high-quality talents with innovative awareness and creative thinking has became a goal pursued by education systems in various countries. As a special type of question with unique educational value, mathematics open-ended questions are not only an effective way to evaluate students’ creative thinking, but also an important way to enhance students’ creative thinking. However,in practical mathematics teaching, the advantages of open questions in evaluating and cultivating students’ creative thinking have not been fully utilized. Therefore, this study will use open question test papers to analyze the creative thinking performance of sixth grade students when solving mathematical open questions, mainly focusing on the following issues:(1)What is the overall performance of students’ creative thinking when solving open mathematics problems?(2)How do students perform in various aspects of creative thinking when solving open mathematics problems?(3)Is there any difference in creative thinking performance among students when solving different types of mathematical open-ended problems? In order to investigate the above issues, this study selected 189 students from four classes of Grade 6 in W and H primary schools in Shaanxi Province as the research subjects, and used methods such as tests and case studies to analyze their creative thinking when solving open mathematics problems. The results indicate that the overall performance of students’ creative thinking when solving open mathematics problems is uneven; From various dimensions, fluency performance is good, flexibility needs to be improved, originality is slightly lacking, and there is a significant correlation between two of the three; In addition, there are also differences in students’ creative thinking performance when solving different types of mathematical open-ended problems. Finally, based on the above research results, the following suggestions are proposed: improve teachers’ understanding of open mathematics problems;Stimulate students’ interest in open mathematics problems;Strengthen students’ practice of open mathematics problems;Create a relaxed open question learning atmosphere;Leave sufficient open question thinking space to improve students’ problem-solving ability and promote the development of creative thinking in the process of solving problems.
