Movement is the key factor for the success of competitive sports.Whether the badminton players can return to the right position timely is one of the key indicators. The main purpose of this paper is to study the fine distribution characteristics of the return-to position of badminton men’s single players in the competition,as well as its possible impact on the subsequent hitting results and its mechanism. The return-to position is a variable that can be trained and adjusted through daily training. However,at present, the research on the return-to position is mainly qualitative analysis, and there are few quantitative studies on the return-to position. Therefore, quantitative research on the relationship between the return-to position and the hitting result can effectively assist our high-level badminton players improve their training level. This paper uses the methods of literature, mathematical statistics, video observation and comparative analysis, takes 130 men’s singles matches as research samples, uses the technology of monocular vision to obtain the relevant process information of badminton matches, and uses the methods of two step cluster, discretization and heat map to identify the key variables that affect the hitting results. The key finidngs are as follows:1)The hypothesis test verifies that there is a significant difference in the hitting height between the winning and lose points. It is also verified that when the hitting height reaches more than 1.5 meters, the winning point increases significantly and the lose point decreases badly(winning point and lose point ratio is 4.9:1).2)Through the discretization analysis, the distribution of the return-to position in the fine area(0.5mx0.5m)is clearly identified. The impact on the hitting heights and the result of the subsequent hits is analysed and conclued as the following.a)Through discretization analysis,it is found that when distance between the return-to position and the net is shorter than 2.5 meters, the average height of the subsequent hit is 1.56 meters, and the probability of obtaining a hit height above 1.5 meters is 32.4%;On the contrary, when distance between the return-to position and the net is longer than 2.5 meters, the average value of the subsequent hitting height is 1.07 meters, and the probability of obtaining a hitting height of more than 1.5 meters is reduced to 4.7%.b)Through the research,it is found that when distance between the return-to position and the net is hiter than 2.5 meters, the result of subsequent hits is positive which means the winning points is greater than the lose points. On the contrary, when distance between the return-to position and the net is longer than 2.5 meters, the result is negative which means the winning points is less than the lose points.
