to unite and lead the people of all ethnic groups to build a strong socialist modernization country. Therefore,China is now in a period of modernization and will remain in a period of modernization in the future.A large number of rural surplus laborers in China will still flock to cities,so the special group of left-behind children that emerged in the context of urban-rural labor transfer will not disappear yet.In addition, education is a major national and party plan, and the revival and prosperity of our country cannot be achieved without the support of education. Then, against the background of the existence of left-behind children, and with the gradual improvement of students’ academic performance in the field of education, the problem of education of left-behind children in rural areas with their parents working outside the home is brought into focus in this paper. In the process of thesis and research, the author finds that the different effects of parents working outside the home on rural students’ academic performance are closely related to the degree of parents’ care.Additionally, this paper intends to investigate the mediating effect of parental care in the effect of parental work on rural students’ academic performance. This study is based on the framework of "dualistic economic structure" theory and family education theory, and uses baseline data from the China Education Tracking Survey(CEPS).The following results were obtained to explore the effects of parental work outside the home on rural students’ academic achievement and the role of parental care in the process of parental work outside the home on rural students’ academic achievement. The results show that(1)parental absence has a significant negative effect on rural students’ academic achievement.(2)The degree of parental care has a significant effect on rural students’ academic achievement. The academic performance of rural students is significantly and positively correlated with the degree of parental care in the growth companionship dimension, and extremely and positively correlated with the degree of parental care in the academic constraint and life constraint dimensions.(3)The degree of parental care mediates the effect of parental absence on rural students’ academic achievement. In the regression analysis of the effect of parental care on rural students’ academic achievement, the two factors of academic constraint and growth companionship dimension are significant, while the factor of life constraint dimension is not.Based on the above findings, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)when parents go out to work, their Left-behind children in China performance will decrease significantly. The absence of parents may cause the left-behind children to be withdrawn and introverted. They will be affected by bad information because of lack of companionship, isolation and unrestrained.(2)parents’ care for their children is conducive to the improvement of students’ academic performance.Parents who take care of their children in life and study can significantly improve their academic performance.Parents who accompany their children to study, play sports and watch TV can also help their children improve their academic performance.(3)when parents are away from home, they can improve their children’s academic achievement by strengthening their guidance and accompanying their children in their studies.Even if the parents work outside, but they can still use mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices, using voice, video and other modern ways to communicate with children, strengthen the care and care of their children. In addition, this paper proposes several methods to help improve the academic performance of rural students whose parents work away from home:(1)At the family level, strengthen home-school cooperation, change the way how parents think, encourage and guide parents who are away from home to participate more in their children’s learning and growth by means of phone calls and videos;(2)At the school level, teachers tailor their teaching to their students’ needs, developing special programs to help students who are struggling(3)At the social level, take appropriate measures to help farmers who move to the city to integrate into the urban life as soon as possible, encourage the children of migrant workers to move to the city to study and live, and formulate policies to precisely help children left behind in economic difficulties, attract outstanding talents to the countryside, and improve the level of education in rural areas. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Parental absence, left-behind children, academic achievement, level of parental care, CEPS data | | Related items |
