The Influence Of Fictional Character Identification On Mathematics Academic Achievement In Junior High Middle School Students: Chain Mediation Between General Anxiety And Mathematical Anxiety

Mathematics education is the basic education,cultivating junior high school students mathematical ability,has always been a major problem to be solved.Previous studies have found that language reading can improve students’ math reading ability,thus improving students’ math academic achievement.Influenced by information technology,today’s students not only read famous novels with new curriculum standards,but also widely read online novels.Novel reading is accompanied by character identification,which affects the development of students’ emotional will and academic achievement.Therefore,the relationship between novel reading and students’ academic achievement has attracted more and more attention from scholars at home and abroad.However,the underlying mechanism of how fiction reading influences academic achievement in mathematics remains unclear.In addition,previous studies only focused on reading famous novels,while network novels are one of the main entertainment activities for junior high school students at present.There are great differences in content and expression between the two,and the influence of network novels on students’ academic achievement in mathematics has not been studied.This study will investigate the influence mechanism of different reading materials(traditional classic novels and contemporary network novels)on mathematics academic achievement of junior high school students.In this study,713 junior high school students in a middle school in Shijiazhuang were investigated by using the novel character identification scale,self-rating anxiety scale and math anxiety scale.SPSS24.0 and AMOS24.0 were used to process the data.The following research results are obtained:(1)The novel character identification of junior high school students is relatively low,and their general anxiety is at a moderately high level,with mild math anxiety;There are significant differences in gender and origin of role identity in network novels,while there are no significant differences in classic novels.There were significant differences in general anxiety in gender,place of origin and singleton.There were significant differences in math anxiety by gender and student origin.(2)There is a positive correlation among the role identification,general anxiety and mathematical anxiety of junior high school students in online novels;Role identification,math anxiety and math anxiety in web novels are negatively correlated with math academic achievement.There is no significant correlation between character identification in famous novels and math anxiety,math anxiety and math academic achievement.(3)Reading online novels can significantly predict general anxiety,math anxiety and math academic achievement;General anxiety can significantly negatively predict math anxiety and math academic achievement.Math anxiety can significantly negatively predict math academic achievement;(4)General anxiety and math anxiety of junior high school students play a chain mediating role in the relationship between role identification and math academic achievement in online novels,respectively;The network novel reading time is different,the chain mediation model is different.
