| Singaporean students constitute an important student group in online Chinese tutoring agencies.The problems they encounter during the learning process have typical characteristics in the field of online Chinese education.A survey indicates that the Singaporean Chinese children commonly face the following issues in online Chinese classes.Firstly,they lack coherence and logic in their language expression when responding.Secondly,students excessively rely on courseware and teachers,lacking independent thinking abilities.Thirdly,students have difficulties in retaining new knowledge and tend to forget quickly.Fourthly,students’ attention are easily distracted and have low level of active participation during the learning process.Scaffolding Instruction,guided by scientific theories and incorporating information technology,not only meets the requirements of cultivating students’ core literacy,but also helps stimulate students’ internal motivation for learning and promotes their thinking development.This method emphasizes that teachers should start from three dimensions: students’ thinking development,memory level and participation.And it also asks teachers to use scaffolding to raise questions and guide students to solve problems independently.Under the guidance of constructivism theory,the zone of proximal development and multiple intelligences theory,teachers should adhere to the five principles of enrichment,relevance,interactivity,consolidation and appropriateness when constructing teaching scaffolds.By implementing the five steps of scaffolding construction,entering the situation,independent exploration,collaborative learning and outcome evaluation,this approach aims to enhance students’ thinking breadth and depth,improve their active participation in the classroom,and facilitate the achievement of teaching objectives.Through teaching practice verification,the scaffolding instruction has proven effective in solving the “Three Deficiencies” encountered by children during the learning process.It is suitable for the current operating model of small online classes and demonstrates feasibility and practicality in online Chinese classes for Singaporean Chinese children.For teachers who teach Chinese as the second language,especially novice teachers,scaffolding instruction can provide them with a new way to organize class reasonably and ensure teaching activities to go on wheels. |
