The "Geography Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education"(2022 Edition)proposes that in junior middle school geography courses,it is necessary to fully reflect the student-centered teaching philosophy. In terms of content selection,it is not only necessary to reflect the development of the geography discipline, but also to select content that meets students’ needs and is suitable for their development, guide students to learn by doing, accumulate experience through doing, and improve their ability to explore and solve geography problems. Therefore, problem driven teaching can help students in junior middle school geography teaching start from real-life geography problems, master problem-solving methods through independent learning or cooperative exploration, and acquire geography knowledge. The quality of academic performance is one of the basic criteria for evaluating the development of students’ core competencies.Academic performance exams are an important new curriculum reform and evaluation tool for summative evaluation of students, laying the foundation for middle school geography learning and providing a basis for enrollment in higher-level schools. The changes in the new middle school entrance examination plan are all guiding geography learning towards the direction of situational, exploratory, creative, and conducive to improving students’ core geography literacy. The survey found that the traditional "cramming" teaching method is still widely used in the current middle school geography preparation and review classroom.Students lack interest in learning, have poor review effects, and have low classroom efficiency, which cannot effectively cultivate students’ problem-solving ability and core literacy. Therefore,it is necessary to apply problem driven teaching to junior middle school geography review classes. In the research, this article uses cognitive learning theory, constructivist learning theory, and the "zone of proximal development" as the theoretical basis.Using research methods such as literature research, questionnaire surveys, and comparative experiments,a high school in Shenyang,Liaoning Province is selected as the research object and conducted experiments.Teaching strategies are used to demonstrate the effectiveness. Finally, the following conclusion is drawn: For students,by applying problem driven teaching in junior middle school geography review classes, students’ enthusiasm for geography learning can be greatly improved, which helps to cultivate problem awareness and improve problem-solving abilities. As a result, geography academic performance can also be significantly improved. For teachers,it is necessary to continuously improve their professional abilities and strengthen their theoretical learning of new knowledge and methods,in order to be able to skillfully apply problem driven teaching to junior middle school geography review classes.
