Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education Mathematics(2011 Edition)puts forward the requirement of cultivating students’ symbolic awareness for the first time,that is,to develop students’ mathematical symbolic awareness relying on the realistic situation.Therefore,it is of great significance and value to focus on the investigation and analysis of junior middle school students’ mathematical symbolic awareness in the realistic situation,which is of great significance and value to cultivate and develop junior middle school students’ mathematical symbolic awareness.Based on the analysis of mathematical symbol awareness and relevant literature of realistic situation,this paper defines the concepts of mathematical symbol awareness and realistic situation,and divides the mathematical symbol awareness of junior middle school students based on realistic situation into four dimensions: the perception and recognition of mathematical symbol,the understanding and operation of mathematical symbol,the association and reasoning of mathematical symbol,and the abstraction and expression of mathematical symbol.On this basis,taking two junior high schools A and B in G City,G Province as examples,three classes of students from the eighth grade of each junior high school were randomly selected as research objects.By compiling test papers and interviewing,the status quo of mathematical symbol awareness of junior high school students based on realistic situations was investigated.SPSS and EXCEL software were used for statistical analysis of the completion of the test volume.The results show that:Students’ performance in the two dimensions of perception and recognition of mathematical symbols,understanding and operation of mathematical symbols is above average.Among them,the perception and recognition of mathematical symbols are the best,while the performance in the two higher dimensions of association and reasoning of mathematical symbols,abstraction and expression of mathematical symbols is poor.Moreover,students’ mathematical symbolic awareness in the realistic situation reflects a certain consistency in these dimensions.To achieve the status of higher dimensions,certain knowledge and experience basis is needed on the basis of good performance in lower dimensions.The main factors affecting students’ awareness of mathematical symbols are:(1)the strength of students’ reading ability;(2)The creation of realistic situations in the teaching process;(3)Establishing awareness of the connection between mathematical symbols;(4)The understanding of the essence of mathematical symbols.Based on this,the teaching thinking is triggered,and the teaching strategy of mathematical symbol awareness is proposed based on the realistic situation:(1)Pay attention to the creation of realistic situations into teaching;(2)Strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of mathematical symbols;(3)Pay attention to the symbol transformation of the real situation;(4)Relying on the realistic situation to strengthen the symbolic consciousness,into the mathematical modeling thought.
