| On 24 July 2021,the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Off-Campus Training on Students in Compulsory Education(hereinafter referred to as "Double Reduction")in order to effectively improve the standard of school education and continue to regulate off-campus training.The promulgation of this important document was like a stone stirring up a thousand waves,causing strong reactions from the society.This paper uses questionnaires,textual analysis,experimental methods and interviews to analyse and study the current situation of after-school mathematics homework in urban villages from three perspectives: teachers,students,and examples of students’ homework.On the one hand,the study was based on the "double reduction" policy promulgated by the education department to understand the actual situation of reducing the burden of teaching mathematics in junior high schools in urban villages;on the other hand,the study was conducted on the eighth grade students’ homework in R middle schools in urban villages from the aspects of homework objectives and functions,homework content and types,homework quantity and time,homework difficulty and stratification,and homework evaluation and feedback.The survey was conducted to analyse the problems of homework.The questionnaire survey revealed the following problems with the current after-school mathematics homework of Grade 8 students at R Middle School in Chengzhongcun:(1)the homework content comes from a single source;(2)the type of homework is monotonous and boring;(3)the lack of implementation of homework stratification;and(4)the homework evaluation is single and solid.Based on the problems identified above,this article makes the following suggestions from the perspectives of homework objectives and functions,homework content and types,homework quantity and time,homework difficulty and stratification,and homework evaluation and feedback:(1)to correctly understand the necessity of designing mathematics homework;(2)to clarify the objectives and requirements of mathematics after-school homework;(3)to enrich the content and types of mathematics after-school homework;(4)to reasonably control the(5)effectively assigning the difficulty and stratification of homework;and(6)evaluating and giving feedback on homework in a comprehensive and diversified manner,with a view to helping Grade 8 teachers in Urban Village R Secondary School to further optimise and improve the current design of mathematics after-school homework,better utilise the value of mathematics after-school homework,and effectively promote the development of students’ core literacy.In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed recommendations,an experimental study was conducted for more than a month with two classes of Year 8 students in Secondary School R.The results revealed that the optimised mathematics after-school homework was more conducive to promoting students’ quality development in all aspects. |
