This study selected campus cafes and their college students as the research objects, and conducted an educational sociological study of the learning phenomenon of college students in campus cafes with the help of spatial sociology theory. The disciplinary perspective provides a research approach for this study that transcends the distinction between macro and micro perspectives. It selects qualitative research methods, and based on a comprehensive outline of the spatial landscape, dialogue theory is used to achieve a deep explanation of the logic and context of daily life of college students. This study emphasizes the interaction between space and "people".The discussion proceeds from a macro to micro logical context, specifically divided into two levels: "spatial generation" and "spatial practice".On the one hand, under the guidance of spatial sociology theory, the research depicts and analyzes the process and significance of recreational cafes entering university campuses and becoming unique "learning spaces" from a grand era and social narrative dimension. On the other hand, following the research path of educational sociology, focusing on specific "people",exploring the subtle aspects of college students’ daily life world, and examining the motivation and logic of contemporary college students’ "spatial practice" in the context of the new era."Space practice" is specifically manifested in the selection and use of space.Based on the emotional attitude and behavioral frequency of "people",this study classifies the image of learners in campus cafes into three categories: "frequent visitors","rare visitors",and "passing visitors",integrating individual "spatial choice" characteristics, and emphasizing the dynamic transformation between types.Based on the presentation of the diversity and complexity of learners’ group behavior choices, this study follows the dual classical interpretation perspective of "seeking novelty" and "seeking difference",deducing the differentiated practice of "spatial choice" among college students. It is found that the above analytical dimensions fail to fully explain the motivation and logic of college students’ learning in campus cafes due to their failure to regard "learning" itself as the main purpose for most college students to make choices. Therefore, this study believes that it is necessary to highlight the "learning space" attribute of campus cafes.Focusing on another aspect of "spatial practice",that is,how individuals and groups in space "use" this space.By examining the "practice in space" forms of personal and collective learning,as well as communication and interaction in space, occurring in campus cafes, this study found that some contemporary college students are no longer satisfied with the traditional learning scenes between desks and chairs. They are particularly sensitive to the external environment and their own needs,so they shuttle between different learning spaces, seeking to exert their autonomy in daily subtle practices. At the same time, however, they do not explore the world at will, but need to be constrained by external structures to complete the necessary tasks. They try to escape from traditional external disciplines, but it seems that they have slowly established "new" rules that tend to be traditional in the new arena. This interactive process presents the "limited autonomy" of college students in learning, communication, and interaction. This study explores the impact of campus learning space on college students’ learning and development through the phenomenon of college students’ learning occurring in campus cafes, hoping to trigger a rethink of contemporary college students’ learning and arouse attention to the diversity of campus space.Putting academic analysis back into a realistic context, this study proposes that universities should pick up the spirit of "rationality and freedom" as a place to do things conveniently. They can not only attach importance to the construction of new campus learning spaces, but also try to optimize existing campus spaces. In addition,we should also be aware of the needs of college students in the new era,and provide positive education and value guidance to the student community. |
