| The application of records in multiple aspects of daily life has important value for preschool children. My internship experience in kindergarten has made me curious and puzzled about recording activities: what kind of learners do we need to cultivate in the current era of rapid development of artificial intelligence? What abilities do we hope young children to acquire by recording? What is the meaning of recording? How should we view the process and results recorded by young children? These issues drove the author to conduct this study. In order to explore these issues, this study is based on the new developments in socio-cultural history theory and the perspective of game-based learning theory.Five books related to teacher education, four 5s/6s class teachers, and seventeen 5s/6s class children were selected as the research subjects, and qualitative research method was used to conduct three stages of research. In the first stage, text analysis method is used to organize and analyze the expressions and cases related to records in books, summarizing how records are viewed and applied in activities in textbooks for science and mathematics education,as well as books on mathematics, language, and health learning; In the second stage, two 5s/6s class teachers were interviewed and observed on site in a 5s/6s class. The current situation of children’s recording activities was summarized and analyzed, and the author’s viewpoint on the significance of recording activities was proposed. The idea of conducting game observation to explore the significance of recording activities was also proposed; In the third stage, game observation is implemented through two types of tabletop games that include recording stages. One is a game activity where teachers have specific requirements for children’s records and children need to record them in order to carry out the game activity, and the other is a game activity where children do not need to record but teachers create problem situations that need to be recorded and wait for children to discover the significance of recording.Key cases in the game activity observation are selected to present two types of game observation processes. After three stages of research, research questions continue to gather and thinking about them gradually becomes clear. This article discusses four aspects: the difference between focusing on recording results and focusing on the recording process, the relationship between children and teachers in recording activities, the characteristics of game materials that support children in meaningful recording, and the educational perspective reflected behind the implementation of recording activities; The final conclusion is as follows: 1.There are two types of situations in the current implementation of recording activities: one is that the value of recording has not been realized yet,and the other is that the value of recording is realized but instrumental;2.Meaningful records are records that respect the development of subjectivity;3.Conducting meaningful recording activities requires multiple preparations. Finally, returning to the reality of education, educational suggestions were proposed from three aspects: material placement, teacher preparation, and course preparation, and reflection was conducted on this study. |
