The "Biology Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition,2020 Revision)"(hereinafter referred to as the "criterion for curriculum")proposes a basic concept of curriculum that focuses on academic evaluation for development,core literacy as the purpose,and teaching process emphasizes practice."The 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)has put forward the requirements for education to develop a highquality education system,develop quality education,and cultivate high-quality talents with both moral integrity and talent.".However,the traditional lecturing teaching model commonly used in senior high school biology currently has some problems,such as a single teaching method,insufficient learning enthusiasm of students,unfavorable for broadening the horizons of teachers and students,emphasizing knowledge based teaching,and insufficient training of abilities and core qualities,which is difficult to effectively achieve the training goals required by the "criterion for curriculum" and the "Twentieth National Congress".Therefore,it is necessary to research and introduce new teaching models to meet the new requirements of social development for talent cultivation.Project based teaching is a teaching method that uses group members to practice and promote specific projects,thereby conducting cooperative exploration of real and specific issues,and promoting the development of students’ various abilities and qualities.The characteristics of project-based teaching,which emphasize performance evaluation,cooperative learning,and independent inquiry,not only agree with the criterion for curriculum,which focuses on developing core literacy while emphasizing practice in the teaching process,but also will balance the contradiction between the lack of students’ learning enthusiasm brought about by the single traditional teaching mode and the emphasis on knowledge-based teaching,as well as the lack of cultivation of students’ abilities and core literacy.Based on literature review and analysis,this study conducted the following research around the theory and practice of project-based teaching in the field of biology teaching in senior high schools.(1)This paper defines the relevant concepts of project based teaching,and expounds its theoretical basis and research methods.(2)Based on an interview to understand the main problems existing in the "teaching" of current high school biology teachers and the "learning" of students,taking the new version of the People’s Education Edition as an example,Senior High School Biology Compulsory Course 2,in combination with the requirements of the Curriculum Standards,conducted a project-based teaching design that targeted at core literacy,and conducted a three-month teaching practice.(3)Statistical data were collected on students’ monthly exam scores,scientific literacy questionnaires,and self-assessment data on the effectiveness of project-based teaching before and after the experiment.The differences between project-based teaching and traditional classroom teaching models in four dimensions of academic performance,learning interest,cooperative learning,and information literacy were analyzed.(4)Based on my own practical experience in project based teaching,I propose relevant suggestions for optimizing and improving the project based teaching process.This study draws the following conclusions:(1)The practical application of project based teaching in senior high school biology teaching is feasible.It is feasible to integrate core literacy cultivation goals into the project based teaching design and implementation process,and its promotion effect in cultivating core literacy and students’ learning interest is significantly superior to traditional teaching methods.(2)Based on various data from experimental research on project based teaching,student self-evaluation of project based teaching,and interviews with students after class,it can be seen that project based teaching has good student acceptance and teaching effectiveness in current high school biology teaching,and has certain promotion and application value.
