Abstract/Summary:
Geographic thinking of processing is an important aspect of the composition of an individual’s geographical thinking skills and has positive significance for the implementation of core geographical literacy.It is important to reveal the dimensional structure system of geographic thinking of processing to develop students’ geographic thinking skills.Through literature extrapolation and theoretical constructs deduction,geographic thinking of processing is defined as a series of complex processing such as analysis and synthesis,abstraction and generalisation of geographic process facts by individuals with existing geographic knowledge and experience,in order to understand geographic process phenomena,grasp geographic process laws and generate solutions to geographic process problems and other intrinsic cognitive processes.Based on the attributes of geographic process itself,three primary dimensions of geographic thinking of processing are initially assumed: thingking of geographic process’ s feature,thingking of geographic process’ s pattern and thingking of geographic process’ s association,and nine subordinate secondary dimensions are set.Based on the conceptual definition and dimensional delineation of geographic thinking of processing,a measurement tool for geographic thinking of processing was developed.200 samples of high school graduates from 25 provinces across China were selected as test subjects,and the quality and reliability of the measurement tool were tested.Validation structural validity tests were conducted on the pre-defined dimensional divisions of geographic thinking of processing and the data results performed unsatisfactorily.After further theoretical derivation and exploratory factor analysis of the sample data,the pre-determined dimensions of geographic thinking of processing were adjusted and reconstructed into three new dimensions: awareness of the objective existence of geographic processes,awareness of the potential use of process thinking and awareness of the dynamic laws of geographic processes.Based on the reconstructed structure of the geographic thinking of processing dimensions,the original measurement tool was adapted within the framework of the revision.A sample of 210 high school graduates from 28 provinces was selected for testing after the dimensional reconstruction,and the reconstructed geographic thinking of processing measurement instrument was tested for item quality and reliability.The validation structural validity of the reconstructed geographic thinking of processing dimensional structure was tested using the sample of high school graduates collected twice.The first sample was tested and the data fit results for each dimension of the reconstructed thinking about geographic processes met the desired standard,and the hypothesis of the reconstructed three-dimensional structure was initially confirmed;the second sample was tested again for the reconstructed thinking about geographic processes dimension and the data fit results for each dimension of the reconstructed thinking about geographic processes also met the desired standard,and the hypothesis of the reconstructed three-dimensional structure was further confirmed.Finally,a set of 27 self-statement scale questions was developed to measure geographic thinking of processing,and the tested three-dimensional structure of geographic thinking of processing was obtained: awareness of the objective existence of geographic processes,awareness of the potential use of process thinking,and awareness of the dynamic laws of geographic processes.Based on this,the basis for the development of teaching strategies for developing process thinking in geography for high school students is presented and teaching strategies for developing process thinking in geography for high school students are proposed.
