A Characteristic Study Of "Combination Of Structure And Properties" Content In Basic Organic Chemistry

Structure and Properties(SAP)is the core chemistry concept as well as a crosscutting concept.Organic chemistry is an important branch of chemistry,where SAP takes on a unique connotation.Science textbook is an important medium to carry out teaching activities,therefore,the construction mode of core concept in textbook has practical significance.The existing researches on organic chemistry textbooks focus more on content organization or column design,and less on specific core concept or ability structure.This study takes the content that reflect "combination of structure and properties" in basic organic chemistry textbook published by Phoenix Education Press as the starting point.Based on previous textbook studies,this paper constructed an analytical framework,including content attributes,which focused on cognitive perspective and thinking mode reflected in SAP content,and teaching characteristics,which focused on SAP content organization.According to the analytical framework,textbook was coded.Besides,this paper conducted data analysis and case analysis to reveal the SAP content characteristics in the textbook.Based on the research conclusion and discussion,several enlightenments on textbook writing and teacher teaching were drawn.The main conclusions show as follows:(1)For the perspective of structure,textbook focuses on developing students’ understanding of the structure based on the transformation of functional groups and the fracture and formation of chemical bonds.(2)For the perspective of properties,experimental phenomena and application in daily life or industrial manufacture are frequently used in textbook as cognitive carrier of properties.(3)As to the correlation orientation,explaining properties based on structure is strengthened through textbook.There are few tasks of function-oriented structural modification presented in textbook.(4)As to the organization of SAP content,the establishment and connection of SAP perspective is reasonable by considering features of organic compound and students’ cognition.Meanwhile,each type of column highlights its specific function.(5)Concerning the visual representation,symbolic representation is frequently used in SAP content.There are limitations in types and function of microscopic representation.The macroscopic visual representation related to experimental phenomena,production and life is relatively scarce.(6)As to the competence structure,ability of structure reasoning and micro-analysis are highlighted on columns,and ability level basically presents a pyramidal distribution.Content reflected ability of organic synthesis is presented in a state of dispersed distribution with less quantity.
