Modeling ability is an important component of the ability to solve physics problems.Currently,many countries,including China,emphasize the cultivation of modeling ability in secondary school curriculum requirements.However,the traditional physics exercises commonly used in teaching today are often highly abstract and generalized,and students need to complete fewer model building tasks in the process of completing the exercises.Therefore,it is difficult for teachers to comprehensively evaluate students’ modeling abilities.Based on the primitive physics problems and the context-rich problems,we design a new test of physics modeling in high school,and prepares the model-oriented test paper and the traditional exercise paper.By testing two groups of senior high school students with the same level of physics performance at ordinary times,we first use the traditional scoring method to score the test results and compare the differences between the two evaluation results.Then,we use the physics modeling evaluation method to score the test results,and we compare the differences between the model-oriented test paper and the traditional exercise paper in reflecting the students’ physics modeling ability.The results show that there is no significant difference between the evaluation results of the two groups of test papers when the traditional scoring method is used to score the model-oriented test papers and the traditional exercise papers,which indicates that the physics model-oriented test papers will not change the original student score distribution.When the physics modeling evaluation method is used to score the model-oriented test paper and the traditional exercise paper,the scoring rates of the model-oriented test paper in the dimensions of "way of facing" and "conceptualization" are significantly higher than that of the traditional exercise paper,which indicates that students’ physics modeling ability is relatively implicit when answering the traditional exercise paper,while the physics modeling ability is relatively explicit when answering the model-oriented test paper.Therefore,we found that compared with the traditional exercise paper,using the model-oriented test paper to evaluate students can provide more basis for teachers to evaluate students’ physics modeling ability without changing the original distribution characteristics of students’ grades.
