In the historical process of promoting high-quality development of the economy,higher vocational education shoulders an important mission.However,under the dominant view of one-way adaptation,higher vocational education often lags behind economic development,leading to a dilemma in coordinated development between the two system.What is the actual coordination between the two system,and how to promote the coupling and coordinated development of both are important issues that we need to pay attention to.With the aid of the coupling coordination degree model,this study constructs an evaluation index system for the coupling coordination degree of higher vocational education and high-quality economic development,and explores the current situation,influencing factors,and improving countermeasures of the coupling coordination degree.Firstly,based on theoretical analysis and previous research experience,an indicator system for the coupling coordination degree is constructed based on the CIPP evaluation model and the New Development Concept.Secondly,using China’s inter provincial panel data from 2011 to 2020,an empirical test is conducted to explore the spatiotemporal differentiation and spatial correlation characteristics of the coupling coordination degree among various provinces in China.Thirdly,this research uses econometric models to explore the internal and external influencing factors of coupling coordination degree and their spatial effects.Finally,this research provides optimization countermeasures for achieving the coordinated development of higher vocational education and high-quality economic development.The main conclusions are as follows: First,China’s higher vocational education lags behind the high-quality development of the economy.The coupling coordination degree between the two systems has been increased over time and has spatial heterogeneity.The degree of coupling coordination among the three regions is characterized by a distribution of “high in the east,flat in the middle,and low in the west.”.Secondly,the coupling coordination degree between higher vocational education and high-quality economic development has a global spatial positive correlation feature.There is a spatial correlation between neighboring provinces and exhibits relatively consistent characteristics.A stable spatial pattern has been formed between provinces,and there is a certain path dependence in the evolution of spatial structure.It is difficult for most provinces to actively break away from the original cluster.Thirdly,the coupling coordination degree is influenced by various internal and external factors.Internal factors are dominated by “Green and Coordinated Development”,and the impact of “Shared Development” is gradually highlighted.In terms of external factors,the degree of government support and higher vocational dependency have a positive impact in the local area,while the level of marketization,human capital stock,and openness have a positive impact on the coupling coordination degree in neighboring regions.Fourth,improving the coupling coordination degree requires starting from three aspects: scientific evaluation,precise policy implementation,and overall planning.It is necessary to scientifically evaluate the coupling coordination degree,taking the development of the two systems into account;accurately implement policies based on local conditions and continuously optimize the external development environment;overall planning and coordinated development to unleash spatial spillover effects.
