Unconventional physics experiment is a scientific exploration activity with convenient materials,simple process,and strong interest.At the same time,scientific interpretation is one of the elements of scientific explanation,and based on unconventional physical experiments,the development of students’ scientific explanation ability can be cultivated in real situations created by unconventional physical experiments.The literature research method was used to set forth the current research situation of unconventional physical experiments and scientific explanations in this paper,A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate and interview students in the school where the teaching practice was conducted to determine the necessity and feasibility of cultivating students’ scientific explanation ability based on unconventional physical experiments.Adhering to the principles of scientificity,purposefulness,and relevance,we have developed unconventional physical experiments such as "Slanted cola bottles" "Climbing balls" " Must friction be resistance?" " Influencing factors of sliding friction" "Weighing" and "Spring stretching".We have combined the designed unconventional physical experiments with the CER framework to design a scientific explanation task list based on unconventional physical experiments.Based on "High School Physics Interaction and Newton’s Law of Motion ",with the goal of promoting the development of students’ conceptual understanding and scientific explanation abilities,the corresponding teaching designs have been made for the three topics of "center of gravity","sliding friction",and "overweight and weightlessness".Finally,in teaching practice,quasi-experimental research was conducted by setting up experimental classes and control classes to compare and analyze the teaching effects of cultivating students’ scientific interpretation ability based on unconventional physical experiments.Teaching practice has shown that using a scientific explanation task list based on unconventional physical experiments can well integrate unconventional physical experiments and scientific explanations,achieving a 1+1>2 effect.Carrying out scientific inquiry activities in unconventional physics experiments can promote students’ understanding of physical concepts and laws,lay a solid foundation for students to construct scientific explanations,and effectively cultivate students’ ability to interpret science.
