With the development of science and technology promoting social progress,the level of public scientific literacy plays a vital role in enhancing a country’s economic strength and national competitiveness.Therefore,in 2017,the new curriculum underwent another reform,proposing the goal of comprehensively developing students’ core competencies,and placing higher teaching requirements on teachers.At the same time,in order to improve the problems of fragmented,blocky,and isolated subject knowledge in teaching,it requires teachers to attach great importance to the structured design of chemical knowledge,gradually improving students’ level of chemical knowledge structuring.Teachers are required to pay attention to the selection and organization of STSE content themes,so that students can feel the close connection between chemistry and society,environment,science,and technology in the real STSE situation,and promote the transformation of students’ learning methods and the development of students’ core competencies.Therefore,combining the two in teaching is of great significance for further implementing and developing students’ core competencies in the subject.Based on extensive literature review and in-depth analysis of the research and implementation status of "STSE education" and "unit teaching" both domestically and internationally,the author takes situational cognition theory,constructivist learning theory,and systems science theory as the foundation,and a teacher from a middle school in Ningde as the research object,aiming to understand the current implementation status of STSE and unit teaching among frontline teachers through classroom observation.Based on literature review and classroom observation,the author proposes a teaching strategy and practical model for unit learning based on the STSE concept.Taking the "Nitrogen and its compounds" as an example,and taking "nitrogen cycle" as the theme,the author designs the unit teaching,breaks the order of teaching materials,reorganizes and optimizes the content of teaching materials,and carries out teaching empirical research.Through pre-test and post test analysis and comparison,process evaluation,and post-class interview,it is confirmed that this study is effective and feasible.Based on the summary of teaching practice,the author concludes that in unit teaching based on the STSE concept,teachers should:(1)create real STSE situations to effectively improve students’ learning motivation;(2)gradientize knowledge and promote learning progress through unit teaching;(3)Create real problem situations,task oriented guidance for learning ideas.The practical results show that incorporating the STSE concept into high school chemistry classrooms has a certain promoting effect on the development of subject core competencies of students.
