Inquiry practice is the main way of science learning,and the implementation of inquiry practice in the class cannot be achieved without rich and high-quality inquiry and practice activities,and science instructional materials are important resources for providing examples of inquiry and practice activities.Therefore,it is important to establish a framework for analyzing inquiry and practice activities in science instructional materials,to evaluate the quality and explore the design characteristics of inquiry and practice activities in different series of science instructional materials.This research hopes to provide reference for designing and conducting inquiry and practice activities in the future and to provide ideas for evaluating inquiry and practice activities in science instructional materials in the future.Based on theoretical research,this research revises and expands the Inquiry-based Tasks Analysis Inventory(ITAI)by combining the characteristics and elements of inquiry and practice activities,and establishes a framework for analyzing inquiry and practice activities in science instructional materials that is applicable to this research.It is intended to analyze activities from four dimensions: alignment with learning objectives,use of skills related to inquiry practice,the core ideas of scientific inquiry and engineering design,and the level of inquiry practice.Then,using the Science Dimensions and My Pals are Here!Science as the subjects of research,the developed analysis framework was applied,and the design characteristics of the content of inquiry and practice activities in the two sets of instructional materials were analyzed with specific cases.The research shows that(1)The content of the inquiry and practice activities in the two sets of instructional materials remains consistent with the learning objectives;(2)In terms of the use of skills related to inquiry practice,the inquiry and practice activities in Science Dimensions involve a wider variety of skills,and the inquiry and practice activities in My Pals are Here! Science involve a smaller variety of skills;(3)In terms of the core ideas of scientific inquiry and engineering design,the inquiry and practice activities in Science Dimensions have the characteristics of wide coverage and the inquiry and practice activities in My Pals are Here! Science have the characteristics of selectivity;(4)At the level of inquiry practice,the inquiry and practice activities in Science Dimensions are mainly guided inquiry,featuring complete activity links and high practical autonomy;the inquiry and practice activities in My Pals are Here!Science are mainly limited inquiry,highlighting local links and with low practical autonomy;(5)the framework for analyzing inquiry and practice activities in science instructional materials established in this research can analyze the design characteristics of inquiry and practice activities in different science instructional materials in a clearer way.Based on the findings of the content analysis of the inquiry and practice activities in the science instructional materials,this research yields several insights about the design of inquiry and practice activities and makes reflections on the shortcomings of this research and prospects for future efforts. |
