| Improving the integration of migrant workers into urban society is an important means of achieving urbanization construction. This article redefines and measures the level of social integration of migrant workers from the perspective of internal employment gap among migrant workers, and comprehensively compares and analyzes the impact of social integration on household consumption of migrant workers. This not only helps to promote the construction of migrant worker citizenship, but also helps to solve the problem of insufficient consumption among migrant workers and even migrant families.Firstly, this article reviews existing research from three aspects: the concept and measurement dimensions of social integration, the influencing factors of household consumption, and the impact of social integration;Secondly, theoretical analysis not only concludes that the employment gap factor is the fundamental and qualitative factor for measuring the level of social integration of migrant workers, but also draws a theoretical relationship between social integration and household consumption of migrant workers;Thirdly, this article focuses on the perspective of the internal employment gap among migrant workers, providing measurement dimensions and conceptual connotations of social integration; Finally, based on the dynamic monitoring survey data of migrant workers in 2017,this article uses OLS and instrumental variable methods to compare and analyze the impact of social integration on household consumption of migrant workers.Empirical analysis found that: Firstly, from the perspective of consumption goals, the internal employment gap among migrant workers characterized by labor intensity, welfare security, and job stability is a fundamental factor for social integration, which better reflects the quality of social integration. Moreover, the re measured level of social integration is significantly lower than that measured in classical sociology;Secondly, social integration has significantly promoted the consumption and structural upgrading of migrant workers’ households. This is manifested as an increase in the average monthly consumption level of households,an increase in development and enjoyment oriented consumption, and a decrease in the Engel’s coefficient;Thirdly, the quality of social integration is the key factor affecting the consumption of migrant workers’ families.Only social integration based on the employment gap within migrant workers can promote the upgrading of family consumption structure. The analysis results indicate that although social integration at the level of classical sociology can promote consumption,it cannot promote the upgrading of consumption structure; On the basis of employment gap, social integration not only has a greater promoting effect on household consumption, but also can optimize household consumption structure; Finally, there is heterogeneity in individual characteristics in the consumption effect of social integration.Social integration has a greater boosting effect on the consumption of vulnerable groups such as low education and middle-aged and elderly migrant workers.Based on theoretical and empirical analysis, this article proposes the following policy recommendations:(1)Improving the social integration level of migrant workers should be guided by promoting consumption;(2)Improving the quality of social integration based on the employment conditions and stability of grassroots migrant workers;(3)Fully implement the reform of the registered residence system and eliminate the registered residence and its dependent discrimination policies;(4)Build cities that are more inclusive of vulnerable groups such as low education and middleaged and elderly migrant workers. |
