| With the wide spread of the image of perfect body, fitness has become a way of exercise for women’s body management.Women’s body-building is the shaping behavior of women’s own body, which has the metaphor of social gender and cultural discipline of the body.In recent years, the research on female body subjectivity has become increasingly rich, and female fitness has also been regarded as a physical practice of awakening female consciousness. The gym is also an ideal place for many women to choose to achieve their body goals.Frequently going to the gym to exercise is a part of the daily life of female bodybuilders. So,as a common place for female bodybuilders,is there a gender ideology in the gym that women transform themselves? How to understand their behavior of persisting in sports for a long time in the gym? What does the gym space mean for them? Therefore, this paper takes the gym as a space medium and interprets the behavioral significance of female bodybuilders in the gym based on sociological space theory.Through the research methods of participatory observation and semi-structured interview, this paper analyzes the social relations reflected by the gym space media and the significance of the gym space for female bodybuilders from the three aspects of physical space, body embedding in space media, and body to space practice. This paper is divided into five chapters: The first chapter analyzes the text symbols of the physical space of the gym from three aspects: culture, commerce and geography. The gymnasium has the advantages of public space, body management and time and space, which provides the prerequisite for female bodybuilders to enter the gymnasium. The second chapter, from the perspective of space theory, expounds the theoretical basis of the interaction between gym space and female bodybuilders’ bodies. In the third chapter, from the three media of display, reproduction and machine,it is found that the gymnasium implies the spatial power of disciplining the female body. The fourth chapter observes a series of body-building processes of female bodybuilders, and reconstructs the subjective status of female bodybuilders through the interactive experience of body and space media. The fifth chapter is a summary.Although there are consumerism and gender power self-discipline on women’s bodies in the gym space, they also write about women’s subjectivity through their physical practice on the spot.As a space medium, the gym reflects the consumption culture and gender power relationship, and invisibly urges women to discipline themselves. However, the female body can participate in the reproduction of the gym space and reconstruct the space imagination by giving full play to the subjectivity and using the body strategy and space resources. For female bodybuilders,on the one hand, the gym is not only a space for the pursuit of figure, but also a habitat for their spiritual freedom. In the gym, they can go to a body-building ceremony to liberate their body and mind, and extend their positive body thinking into their daily life. |
