With the rapid development of China’s economy, public welfare undertakings are also growing, among which college foundations,as a kind of public welfare organizations, are also developing rapidly, providing corresponding support for the development and construction of colleges and universities, personnel training and teaching research in terms of funding. The university foundation is a non-public foundation, and the law stipulates that it is not allowed to initiate fundraising for the public, and the investment income is a relatively stable source of funds for it.The university foundation has the responsibility of preserving and increasing the value of the endowment fund, and should collect funds from multiple perspectives to ensure financial support for the development and construction of universities and educational research. With the introduction of the Regulations on Administration of Foundations, the Charity Law of the People’s Republic of China and the Interim Measures for the Administration of Investment Activities of Charitable Organizations for Preservation and Appreciation, more foundations gradually carry out investment activities. However, some problems exist in China’s foundations in terms of investment strength, investment awareness, and investment management ability are gradually exposed. It is of great importance for foundations to effectively solve these related problems and improve their ability to preserve and increase value. At present, although there are many studies on foundation investment in China, most of them analyze the investment behavior of Chinese foundations from the policy and management perspectives, and mainly from the macro level or on a certain aspect of foundation investment management, lacking analysis on the external investment behavior of specific foundations, and the existing theories draw more on foreign related experiences, which may lack certain relevance to domestic foundations. This paper firstly collates the literature related to college foundation investment from three research directions: investment mode, investment risk and investment return;secondly,it introduces the theoretical foundation related to college foundation investment;then summarizes and outlines the development status of college foundation in China;again, this paper takes University A Education Foundation as a case and adopts the case study method to analyze the investment behavior of college foundation from the aspects of cash management, investment asset allocation, investment return,The problems can be summarized as: low overall capital investment ratio, low investment return rate, and single investment structure. The analysis of the causes of the problems concluded with the following recommendations:attach importance to investment activities, expand investment scale, enrich investment allocation, improve management mechanism, improve laws and regulations, and organize special training. It is hoped that this paper can provide some reference significance for China’s university foundations in investment management and promote the continuous development and growth of university foundations. In this paper, there are two innovations in the research process: firstly,we have made a new attempt in the research content,in-depth individual research in the case, and selected University A Education Foundation in China as the case object, analyzed its financial situation and investment status in various aspects, and explored the problems in its investment management, and the conclusions reached are relevant and have strong feasibility;secondly,we have broadened the investment management of the foundation Secondly,we broaden the perspective of investment management of foundations by analyzing cash management, asset allocation, and investment risk from various perspectives, hoping to provide new ideas for the subsequent case studies of related foundations in China.
