In recent years, domestic violence has become a social issue that needs urgent attention, not only for the protection of human rights, but also for the stability and harmony of society. As a social instrument, the number of media reports on domestic violence incidents is increasing day by day.Especially with the popularization of the Internet, the network media has developed rapidly, and there is a new breakthrough in the coverage of domestic violence. However, there is a lack of research on network media coverage of domestic violence in the field of journalism and communication, which is characterized by a small number and a narrow research scope.Based on this, this paper adopts a gender perspective,a content analysis method and a case study method, and takes the domestic violence reports of The Paper.cn from March 1,2016 to February 28,2021 as a sample and the "Ma Jin Yu domestic violence incident" as a case study,in order to show the general overview of domestic violence reports in network media, summarize its main characteristics This paper analyzes the gender bias problem in the reports. This paper presents the current situation of domestic violence reports in six aspects: time and number of reports, report forms, news sources, victims in reports, types of domestic violence in reports, and report subjects. The study also found that some gender biases and journalistic misconducts exist in Surfing News’ domestic violence coverage, such as labeling female characters in the coverage, ambiguous descriptions of female victims, and neglecting male victims in the coverage. To address these problems, suggestions for optimizing the presentation of network media reports on domestic violence are proposed from three directions: within media organizations, network media practitioners, and the reports themselves. From presenting the current situation, exploring the characteristics, identifying the problems, and trying to propose suggestions for optimization, this paper aims to help network media better present the topic of domestic violence to a certain extent, play a positive role in such reports, and enrich the research related to media and gender.
