Objective: Currently, the combination of strength and plyometrics training has been shown to be effective in enhancing athletic performance. However, there is no consensus on how to most effectively combine strength and plyometrics in a single session to improve the power of lower body in basketball players. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the effects of three different combinations of strength and plyometrics training(Complex Training,Contrast Training, and Traditional Training)on the power of the lower body of college basketball players,in order to investigate the best combination of strength and plyometrics to improve the power of lower body of college basketball players. Methods:Thirty male basketball players from Shanghai University of Sport(SUS)were recruited and randomly assigned to three groups: Complex group(alternating strength training and plyometrics training),Contrast group(all strength training before and plyometrics training after),and Traditional group(all plyometrics training before and strength training after). Each group consisted of 10 participants, and the experimental intervention was conducted twice a week for eight weeks. Before the experimental intervention,The first test data were collected for each group on Counter Movement Jump without Arms Swinging(CMJ),Counter Movement Jump with Arms Swinging(CMJ-A),Non-Counter Movement Jump,NCMJ),Drop Jump(DJ),Long Standing Jump(LSJ),20 m Sprint(20m),505 Change-of-Direction(505COD),505Change-of-Direction Deficit(505CODD)and 1 Repetition Maximum of Back Squat(BS 1RM).At the end of the eight-week experimental intervention, the second test data were collected for the three groups.Results:(1)There was no significant time×group interaction for CMJ(P=0.679),CMJ-A(P=0.246),NCMJ(P=0.334),DJ(P=0.073),LSJ(P=0.116),20m(P=0.316),505COD(P=0.252),505CODD(P=0.767),BS 1RM(P=0.128)on Complex group,Contrast group and Traditional group.(2)There was highly significant changes in main effect for time for CMJ,CMJ-A,NCMJ,LSJ,20 m,505COD,and BS 1RM on Complex group,Contrast group and Traditional group.Three groups significantly improved CMJ(respectively: 16.2%,15.4%,14.8%),CMJ-A(respectively: 17.8%,16.4%,16.2%),NCMJ(respectively: 12.3%,11.2%,10.8%),DJ(respectively: 15.6%,15.2%,13.3%),LSJ(respectively: 7.7%,6.9%,6.5%),20m(respectively: 3.6%,3.5%,3.3%),505COD(respectively: 2.4%,2.3%,2.3%),and BS 1RM(respectively: 20.7%,18.1%,18.7%).(3)There was no significant main effect for group on 505 CODD on Complex group,Contrast group and Traditional group. There was no significant change in 505 CODD in the three groups(respectively: 0.6%,0.5%,0.4%).Conclusion:(1)The three combinations of strength and plyometrics training had a significant effect on improving the strength and power of lower body in college basketball players.(2)The three training combinations of strength and plyometrics had no significant effect on the ability of change-of-direction of college basketball players, and the improvement of linear acceleration ability might be the main reason for the significant improvement of 505 COD for each group.(3)The overall effect of the Complex group was better than the Contrast group and the Traditional group, which may be due to the shorter training interval between strength training and plyometrics training in the Complex group, resulting in a suitable enhancement effect.(4)The three combinations of strength and plyometrics training had basically similar effects on enhancing the power of lower body in college basketball players, and the order of combination of strength and plyometrics was not a decisive factor in affecting the strength and power of lower body of college basketball players. |
