The academic performance of junior high school students is directly related to their future.A review and analysis of a variety of factors that influence academic achievement reveals that both family and individual factors have a significant impact on academic achievement.The family is the system most closely linked to the development of individual socialisation,and previous research on the relationship between family socioeconomic status(SES)and academic achievement is divided and deserves further exploration.Therefore,this study explores the relationship between SES and academic achievement and the mechanisms of their effects to find ways and means to enhance the academic achievement of junior secondary school students.In this study,a total of 1112 middle school students from Fangchenggang city,Beihai City,Nanning City,Guangxi were tested by using the Socioeconomic Status Scale,the Family General Functioning Scale,the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale and the Academic Achievement Scale as research tools,and the following results were obtained:(1)There is a positive and significant relationship between SES and the academic performance of lower secondary school students.SES can positively predict academic performance,and the higher SES,the higher the academic performance.(2)Family function plays a role in regulating the relationship among SES and academic achievement.(3)Academic self-efficacy partially mediates the relationship among SES and academic performance of secondary school students.(4)Family function and academic self-efficacy have a chain intermediary role on SES and academic achievement.Conclusion: SES can positively predict academic achievement,and it can also influence academic achievement through the chain mediation of family function-academic self-efficacyRecommendations:(1)Decrease the gap between rich and poor,promoting equity in education.(2)Realizing the effective functioning of the family in multiple ways.(3)Various channels to enhance academic self-efficacy.
