| Learning engagement refers to the sum of resources such as time,energy and attention invested by individuals in the learning process,and is an important concept in the field of psychology.In recent years,scholars at home and abroad have increasingly conducted theoretical and empirical studies on learning engagement,indicating its important status in educational psychology.For junior high school students,learning is their main life content and developmental task,and learning engagement not only reflects their learning efficiency and motivation,but also affects their academic performance and psychological health.Therefore,improving the level of junior high school students’ learning engagement is a key factor in promoting their overall development and solving educational problems.The relationship between family functioning and learning engagement in the current educational situation,and how daily academic flexibility plays a role in both,needs to be further explored.The purpose of this study was to examine whether daily academic flexibility could constitute a mediating role of family functioning on learning engagement for junior high school students by administering the Daily Academic Flexibility Scale,the Family Functioning Scale,and the Learning Engagement Scale to a middle school in Nanning,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.The results found that:(1)Junior high school students’ family function score is 3.30,which is higher than the average score of 3,and the scores of family function dimensions are 3.39 and 3.27 in order of closeness and adaptability;junior high school students’ academic engagement score is 4.30,which is higher than the average score of 4,and the scores of academic engagement dimensions are 4.10,4.55 and 4.30 in order of vitality,dedication and concentration;the score of daily academic flexibility is 3.59,which indicates that the overall family function,academic engagement and daily academic flexibility of junior high school students in this school are in the middle to high level.middle school students’ overall family functioning,commitment to learning and daily academic resilience are at a moderate to high level;(2)Family functioning of junior high school students is significantly and positively related to academic engagement;family functioning is significantly and positively related to daily academic flexibility;and daily academic flexibility is significantly and positively related to academic engagement;(3)The direct effect of family functioning on learning engagement was significant,daily academic elasticity partially mediated the relationship between family functioning and secondary school students’ learning engagement,and family functioning indirectly predicted learning engagement through daily academic elasticity.Implications of the study results:Play the positive role of family function to increase the closeness and adaptability among members;correctly use learning strategies to increase the level of learning engagement;and transform cognition to increase their own level of daily academic resilience. |
