As a part of the disabled, people with mild intellectual disability are a vulnerable group among the disadvantaged people in employment, and due to congenital conditions and other reasons, they are vulnerable to discrimination and exclusion in the job market, and it is difficult to obtain relatively stable jobs. Moreover, the common methods of employment assistance for people with mild intellectual disability at this stage are not effective in practice, such as the role of welfare enterprises that can provide centralized employment is gradually weakening, the implementation of the policy of proportional employment by ordinary enterprises is not strong, and it is difficult to start a business independently. In order to better solve the employment problem of people with mild intellectual disability,we should focus on their student period and do a good job in vocational transition services from the student stage to the employment stage.Social work always pays attention to the development of vulnerable groups,so exploring effective strategies for social work to intervene in the vocational transition of students with mild intellectual disability is an important way to help this group improve their employability and promote their social integration.Taking Y Special Education School in S City as an example, this study analyzes the whole process of vocational transition services for students with mild intellectual disability through the investigation of social workers, class teachers, curriculum teachers, the public, enterprise employers, students and parents of the school, and analyzes the difficult needs in the service process and the intervention practices and effects of follow-up social work from the perspective of empowerment theory from three aspects:personal, interpersonal and social levels. The study believes that from the perspective of empowerment theory, social work has targeted intervention in vocational transition services for students with mild intellectual disability, made vocational transition services more scientific based on evaluation, improved resource integration. And discussed the empowerment theory, believing that in addition to focusing on students’ personal, interpersonal and social empowerment,it should also pay attention to the continuous empowerment of families. Finally, the problems still existing in school vocational transition services were discussed, and relevant suggestions were given to improve the public’s acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities, innovate the form of enterprise assistance for vocational transition, and build an employment support system for people with intellectual disability.
