Ethical Dilemmas In Hospital Practice For Social Work Students

Ethical dilemma is an important issue throughout the process of social work.It is not only the most severe test faced by every social worker,but also the most effective measure to test the practical ability of social workers.In the process of professional practice in the hospital field,social work students will face many ethical dilemmas.For social work students,these ethical dilemmas will not only affect their service effect,but also affect their professional growth.Therefore,this paper focuses on the ethical dilemmas faced by social work students in hospital practice,studies its types,causes and coping ways,and hopes to put forward suggestions on the research of ethical dilemmas faced by social work students in hospital practice.This paper mainly uses the semi-structured interview and participatory observation method to classify the ethical dilemmas encountered by 15 students majoring in social work in colleges and universities in S City during their practice in the hospital field,to understand the specific manifestations of different ethical dilemmas,and to analyze the micro,meso and macro causes of ethical dilemmas through the research framework of ecosystem theory combined with the interview data.Then,the realistic coping strategies and prospective coping suggestions for social work students facing ethical dilemmas are summarized and put forward.It is found that the main ethical dilemmas social work students face in hospital practice are:first,the dilemma of confidentiality;Second,the dilemma of self-determination;Third,multiple relationship dilemma;Fourth,the dilemma of multi-subject interest conflict.Based on the interview data,the author believes that the reasons for the above ethical dilemmas are as follows:at the micro level,the professional ability of social work students is weak;The complexity of the practice system and the limitation of the supervision system at the mesolevel;The external environment for medical social work at the macro level is poor.In addition,the author sorted out and analyzed the practical solutions to the ethical dilemmas of social work students.The active solutions include that social work students always adhere to the principle of "life is above everything",are good at resolving the primary and secondary contradictions,and make flexible adjustments in the real situation.The negative responses include social work students adopting the role cognition principle of "making mistakes",allowing professional relations to be dominated by Chinese human relations and social culture,and making choices constrained by institutional regulations in multi-interest conflicts.The differences between positive coping and negative coping are mainly attributed to individual traits,realistic situations and differences in the role of supervision.In view of this,the author puts forward forward-looking suggestions on ethical dilemmas from the micro,meso and macro levels:the micro level is to enhance the coping ability of social work students;The middle level is to promote the communication and interaction between social work and medical specialty,and promote the cooperative education between hospital supervisors and school supervisors.The macro level is to construct the local ethical code and improve the professional system.Deepening classroom education and perfecting practical education;To improve the external environment of medical social work,we should strengthen publicity work and raise professional awareness.Finally,the author hopes that this paper can enlighten the social work ethics education in colleges and universities:colleges and universities should establish the ethical education model of "theory,reflection,practice and feedback";Focus on the education and supervision of ethical dilemmas in social work;At the same time,the localization and situationization of social work ethics should be strengthened.
