On April 21,2022,the Ministry of Education convened a press conference concerning the revision of the curriculum plan and standards for compulsory education, thereby officially promulgating the 2022 edition of the "Chinese Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education." Whether it is Appendix 1 of the newly promulgated "Chinese Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education" or Appendix 1 of the 2017 edition of the "Chinese Language Curriculum Standards for General High Schools," both encompass recommended selections of classical poetry and literature for recitation. The significance of studying and appreciating classical poetry and literature throughout the entire secondary school stage is apparent. As an integral component of classical poetry and one of the most familiar poetic forms to students,Tang poetry holds great representativeness and research value.During the research process, the author personally believes that the selection of recommended Tang poetry for extracurricular recitation in the two stages of secondary school could be further explored by incorporating a broader range of materials. Therefore, this article will embark on an exploration from the perspective of various editions of selected Tang poetry throughout history.By conducting a compilation analysis of these editions and considering the selection of Tang poetry within secondary school Chinese language textbooks and the recommended recitation pieces for extracurricular activities,an endeavor will be made to compile a more reasonable and updated list of recommended Tang poetry for recitation, serving as a valuable reference for teachers and students. The thesis comprises four chapters. The first chapter delves into the study of selected editions of Tang poetry. This section will categorize all collected editions of Tang poetry into six periods: Tang Dynasty,Song Dynasty,Jin and Yuan Dynasties,Ming Dynasty,Qing Dynasty, and contemporary era.It will provide a concise classification and investigate the historical context, editorial perspectives, and selection survey of each period’s editions.Chapter two focuses on the quantitative analysis of the selection data.It begins with an analysis of the poem selection in all Tang poetry editions, followed by the derivation of various data rankings. Finally,a quantitative analysis of the selected Tang poetry compilations in all editions is conducted.Chapter three presents a comparative study between the top 413 ranked Tang poems and the textbooks and curriculum standards. The concluding chapter, chapter four, offers recommendations for the selection of Tang poetry for extracurricular recitation in secondary school Chinese language education. It starts with an analysis of the current situation regarding the selection of Tang poetry for extracurricular recitation, followed by providing suggestions.
