| In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,China has hosted an Olympic extravaganza.During this period,the domestic and external mainstream media presented the Beijing Olympic Games to the foreign people with diversified reports,which also aroused the high attention of the global people to the Beijing Winter Olympics and China.This paper selects the coverage of the Beijing Winter Olympics by CNN and China Daily,the mainstream foreign propaganda media in China and the United States,in order to understand the coverage strategies of the U.S.media on China and provide a reference for China to better cope with international disputes and break the monopoly of international public opinion by the United States and other Western powers in the new era.In the meantime,after summarizing the media’s agenda-setting experience for the Winter Olympics,we can improve our media’s ability to report sports events and promote the future development of our ice sports and ice culture.This paper adopts the theoretical perspective of agenda setting to compare and analyze five dimensions,namely,the number of reports,sources,reporting genres,reporting tendencies,and reporting themes,of the two media,and also combines social network analysis method to present the media’s online agenda building.The emotion of the report gives up the utilitarian "gold medal theory"and has more humanistic feelings;However,the different nature and values of the media lead to a great difference in the number of reports and the theme of the reports.In the post-Winter Olympics period,Chinese media should analyze the foreign media reports in advance in order to deal with international disputes,improve the initiative of setting topics and seize the power of international discourse.At last,the paper gave the correct view of the West reports of China,and explains the shortcomings of the research. |
