ObjectiveUnderstand the current situation and influencing factors of college students’mobile phone dependence, and provide reference for improving college students’mobile phoneependence.MethodsA cross-sectional study of medical college students in Guangzhou was conducted by convenient sampling method, and data collection was carried out using the questionnaire star platform, including self-made general condition questionnaires, including sociological demographic data, lifestyle and health status,Smartphone Addition Scale-Short Version(SAS-SV),Insomnia Severity Index(ISI),Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS),Beck Depression Inventory-13(BDI-13),Zung Self-Rated AnxietyScale(SAS),Reduced Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire-5 items(MEQ-5),General Procrastination Scale(GPS),Self-Control Scale(SCS).Group assessment of college students’ mobile phone dependence was based on the Smartphone Addition Scale-Short Version(SAS-SV).SPSS26.0 was used for statistical analysis.Comparisons between two groups of metrological data were performed using independent samples t-test.Comparison of count data between two groups was performed using the Chi-Squared test.Multivariate analysis was performed by Logistic regression.P<0.05 was considered as statistically significant difference.ResultsA total of 1607 questionnaires were distributed, and 1569 valid questionnaires were recovered, and the effective recovery efficiency of questionnaires was 97.6%.The average age of the participants was 19.86±1.16 years old(15~27 years old),and the number of mobile phone dependents was 944(60.2%).The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the non-only child[OR=1.510 95%CI(1.179,2.020)],>4 hours of mobile phone use per day[OR=1.664 95%CI(1.277,2.169)],and mobile phone use>before going to bed 1 hour[OR=1.585 95%CI(1.121,2.241)],low interest in learning[OR=1.767 95%CI(1.379,2.265)],excessive daytime sleepiness[OR=1.678 95%CI(1.266,2.224)],intermediate sleep patterns[OR=1.416 95%CI(1.030,1.947)],and night-type sleep patterns[OR=2.266 95%CI(1.432,3.588)]and depressive symptoms[OR=1.835,95%CI(1.398,2.410)]were influencing factors for medical students’ mobile phone dependence.ConclusionIn this study, mobile phone dependence among medical students was more common(60.2%),among which whether they were only children, the length of mobile phone use per day, their interest in learning, whether they had daytime sleepiness, sleep patterns, and depressive symptoms were important influencing factors of mobile phone dependence among medical students.
