Social and emotional competence is a set of abilities that enable individuals to identify, manage emotions, respect and care for others, make responsible decisions, and establish good interpersonal relationships when faced with complex scenarios of growth and development during the socialization process.Good social and emotional competence results in enjoyable emotional experiences and promotes human development.Conversely, low social and emotional competence renders people apathetic and selfish, and inhibits their healthy growth. At the same time, with the implementation of the strategic decision of rural regeneration presented by the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, people pay wide attention to the mental health problems in rural areas.According to the education statistics released by the Ministry of Education in August 2021,there are more than 60 million rural middle school students, accounting for about 61% of the national middle school students.According to authoritative data, most rural middle school students have psychological problems to varying degrees.Social emotional ability is a protective factor to improve psychological problems, which is not only conducive to cultivating rural middle school students’ positive and healthy mentality, but also plays an important role in promoting rural revitalization.Based on this, the author used the topic of“A Study of Strategies to Enhance the Social and Emotional Competence of Rural Secondary School Students”.At the same time, the author uses theories such as relational existence theory, ecosystem theory and multiple intelligence theory,as well as literature analysis, interviews and questionnaires to examine the current evolution of the social and emotional capacity of rural secondary school students. The study also analyzed the differences in secondary school students’ social and emotional abilities in terms of demographic variables, identify factors that influence the social and emotional capacities of secondary school students and propose targeted strategies to solve the problems. The results of the study found that:小(1)The social and emotional competence of rural secondary school students in County K of Tongliao City is generally well developed, but there is an unbalanced development among the dimensions;(2)There were differences in students’ social and emotional competence development levels based on demographic variables in terms of gender, grade level, whether they had class officer experience and whether or not they are boarding, which indicated that there was an uneven development of social and emotional competence among rural secondary school students;(3)School climate, school social-emotional learning process, and teacher style have an important influence on students’ social and emotional competence enhancement;(4)Schools currently suffer from a lack of planning for the development of students’ social and emotional competence,a supportive school climate that needs to be strengthened, inadequate construction of social-emotional learning processes,a lack of leadership by the principal, and teachers’ teaching styles that need to be optimized;(5)Suggested countermeasures to develop a plan for students’ social and emotional competence development, build a supportive school climate, develop a social and emotional learning curriculum, strengthen the school’s social-emotional learning process, develop a personalized teaching style, and enhance the leadership skills of the principal. It is hoped that this study will not only arouse the concern of relevant educational administrators about the development of students’ social and emotional abilities, but also provide theoretical basis for schools to effectively carry out social and emotional learning.
