In the unified version of the junior secondary language textbook,in order to incorporate reading of famous books outside the classroom into the reading teaching system and to curricularise the reading of famous books,a section of guided reading of famous books is set up.Among the classical masterpieces are Journey to the West,Water Margin, and The Scholars.More teachers have begun to pay attention to the weight of classical novels in their teaching, but the lack of attention to ’guided reading’ in practice has led to many problems for teachers and students alike since the new textbooks were introduced. However,so far there has been little in-depth research on the teaching of guided reading of classical masterpieces, which should be distinguished from the teaching of guided reading of masterpieces in other genres because of its uniqueness, and therefore research on the teaching of guided reading of classical masterpieces can enhance the operability of teaching masterpieces in junior high school language teaching. This paper analyses the theoretical content related to guided reading of classical novels in junior high school, including the concepts of guided reading of masterpieces and guided reading teaching of classical masterpieces, the preparation of teaching materials for guided reading of classical novels in junior high school and the value of carrying out guided reading teaching of classical novels in junior high school. The questionnaire survey method was used to go into the junior high school guided reading classrooms to understand the current situation of junior high school guided reading teaching of classical novels.Statistical analysis of the questionnaire was conducted to suggest the problems of junior high school guided reading of classical novels: the objectives of guided reading of classical novels are not deep enough, the setting of guided reading activities of classical novels is monotonous, the instruction of guided reading methods of classical novels is inappropriate, and teachers do not pay attention to the evaluation of reading outcomes;the reasons for these problems are: guided reading of classical novels The reasons for these problems are:the limited total lesson time for guided reading, the low experience of teachers in guided reading classes, and the outdated methods of guided reading. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems of guided reading of classical masterpieces,we propose countermeasures related to the teaching of guided reading of classical masterpieces, such as countermeasures on the objectives and contents of guided reading of classical masterpieces, countermeasures on activities and methods, and countermeasures on presentation and evaluation. It is argued that a variety of approaches to guided reading of classical masterpieces should be used, such as gathering the back catalogue of novels, linking intensive reading with general reading;reading with life, linking inside the classroom with outside the classroom. When assessing the effectiveness of students’ reading, the assessment should be carried out in terms of students’ reading assessment, reading methods and students themselves. Finally, the proposed countermeasures are used to design the teaching of guided reading of the famous novel "The Scholars" in the first book of Grade 9 of the Unified Edition language textbook. |
