| With the increasing call from the whole society to improve citizens’ scientific literacy,countries around the world have strengthened their own science teacher team construction.Science education is crucial to the cultivation of scientific and technological innovation talents.The primary school stage is a key period for establishing ideals and cultivating interests.The level of teaching competence of primary school science teachers is related to the level of citizens’ scientific literacy,which determines the success or failure of science education reform.In 2022,the Ministry of Education and the General Office of the State Council issued the "Notice on Strengthening the Training of Science Teachers in Primary Schools" and the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Popularization of Science and Technology in the New Era",which clearly proposed to strengthen science education and cultivate a group of high-quality and professional science teachers.It can be seen that vigorously improving the comprehensive quality,professionalism,and innovation ability of science teachers has risen to the level of national decision-making,and has a leading and fundamental strategic position in building a modern educational power and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Therefore,exploring the current level of teaching competence of primary school science teachers not only helps to discover the problems existing in the teaching competence of this group of primary school science teachers,but also helps to improve the teaching competence level of primary school science teachers,cultivate the scientific thinking,scientific inquiry spirit,and ability of primary school students,and lay a foundation for cultivating scientific and technological innovation talents.In view of this,based on the national requirements for the construction of science teachers in the new era and the nature of science curriculum,this paper selects primary school science teachers from six public primary schools in Yinchuan as the research object,takes the teaching competency level as the carrier,and bases on the current teaching competency of primary school science teachers.It not only analyzes the teaching competency level of primary school science teachers as a whole,but also analyzes the teaching competency level of primary school science teachers.Moreover,from the four dimensions of teaching competence,this paper makes a comprehensive and detailed analysis on the specific competency level of primary school science teachers with different gender,age,teaching age,educational background,professional title and major,and draws the following conclusions through the analysis:(1)The teaching competence of primary school science teachers is generally at a good level(M=3.81).The scores of the four first-level indexes from high to low were:knowledge literacy(M=3.96)>professional character and trait(M=3.86)>scientific thinking(M=3.80)>education and teaching ability(M=3.74).(2)There are significant differences in the teaching competence level of primary school science teachers in terms of gender,age,teaching age,educational background and professional title,but not in terms of major.The older the primary school science teachers are,the longer their teaching experience is,the higher their professional title is,the higher their teaching competence level is.The older the primary school science teachers are,the longer their teaching experience is,the higher their professional title is,the higher their teaching competence level is.The teaching competence level of male science teachers in primary school is higher than that of female teachers.The teaching competence level of primary school science teachers with bachelor’s degree and master’s degree or above is higher than that of primary school science teachers with junior college degree or below.There is no significant difference between the teaching competence level of primary school science teachers whose first education is normal and that of non-normal primary school science teachers.At present,there are still some problems in the teaching competence of primary school science teachers,including weak learning consciousness and slow learning action.Lack of teaching skills and few opportunities for professional cooperation and development;Lack of targeted training,low awareness of peer communication and cooperation;Low professional identity and inadequate incentive measures are the main factors restricting the development of teaching competence of primary school science teachers.Based on this,the author puts forward the following suggestions on how to improve the teaching competence level of primary school science teachers:enhance learning awareness,construct professional planning;Improve the professional level,dig deep the discipline education value;Improve the training mechanism,broaden the path of professional development;Relieve the pressure on teachers and establish a sound incentive system.In a word,improving the teaching competence of primary school science teachers can effectively solve the problems existing in traditional science teaching.From a macro point of view,it can grasp the overall status of science subjects.From a micro point of view,it can cultivate students’ scientific spirit and thinking,and let students gradually master the methods of scientific questioning,exploring and solving problems,so as to give full play to the educational value of disciplines. |
