Reading assignments are of great significance in cultivating students’ reading literacy,and have always been a hot topic in Chinese language teaching research.With the introduction of the "double reduction" policy,the design of reading assignments faces new challenges.How to innovate in the form and content of assignments,and design reading assignments that are creative and interesting,is a question that every Chinese language teacher should consider.In the middle stage of primary school,the focus of reading learning gradually shifts from understanding words,phrases,and sentences to comprehending paragraphs and passages,requiring gradual improvement and increasing difficulty.This requires teachers to guide students’ reading learning through various forms and enrich the forms of reading assignments to stimulate students’ intrinsic motivation.Currently,there are various issues in the design of reading assignments,such as being confined to the textbook content,repeating content,and having a single form,which leads to a lack of positive emotional experiences for students.Improving the design of reading assignments is an urgent task.Visual organizers are a type of visualization tool that has been shown to improve assignment efficiency,develop students’ thinking,promote their initiative and enthusiasm in reading.This study combines the relevant theory of visual organizers with the design of reading assignments in primary school Chinese language teaching to improve the current design of reading assignments,making them more in line with students’ physical and psychological characteristics and interests and playing a role in promoting students’ development.The research includes the following five parts:Chapter 1 is the introduction,which uses literature research to discuss the background of the topic,the core concepts of "reading assignment design" and "visual organizers," the theoretical basis of applying visual organizers to reading assignments,research significance,research ideas and methods,etc.Chapter 2 is a survey of the current situation of reading assignment design in the middle stage of primary school Chinese language teaching.Through the analysis of questionnaire survey data,interview materials,and assignment text cases,it is found that the current design of reading assignments has problems such as a lack of standardized expression of assignment goals,a single written form of reading assignments,a lack of reflection and evaluation of reading assignment design,and a lack of student interest in completing assignments.The main reasons for these problems are that teachers themselves lack awareness of designing reading assignments based on visual organizers,lack of tools for guiding reading assignments,and the need to improve the design process of reading assignments.These studies provide a realistic basis for exploring primary school Chinese language reading assignment design based on visual organizers.Chapter 3 proposes a research framework for designing reading assignments in primary school Chinese language teaching based on visual organizers according to the current situation of reading assignment design in Chapter 2.This framework includes "determining the assignment goals for the unit-designing reading assignment content-selecting appropriate visual organizers to optimize assignment content-reflecting and evaluating reading assignment design."Chapter 4 is a case study.Based on the framework constructed in Chapter 3,the fourth unit of the fourth grade of the compiled textbook is selected as a case for reference by frontline teachers.Finally,the study’s sample size and case presentation are limited,and there is a lack of effectiveness verification of the cases.Future research is expected to improve in these areas.
