| Online teaching has become a significant supplement to offline teaching,as the integration between mobile Internet and education deepens,developing into a vital enabler that modernizes education and facilitates its balanced development.However,online teaching also has some problems to be solved,and online truancy is one of them.Online truancy means students deliberately do not participate in online teaching activities,but engage in other activities unconcerned with learning,although they have logged in to the online class.Online truancy is different from the truancy during offline teaching,so it deserves a specialized discussion.Centering on the online truancy of college students,this study discussed the behavior and mode,experience,causes and effects of online truancy based on a survey of some students of the H University who have ever had online truancy.For the purpose of this study,online teaching means face-to-face real-time teaching carried out on web conferencing software between teachers and students,which allows the normal procedure of teaching even if teachers and students are not in the same space.The survey was conducted in two parts for this study.In the first part,interviews were conducted with 19 students who had ever committed online truancy in order to acquire diversified and in-depth views on online truancy.In the second part,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 122 students who had ever committed online truancy,serving as a verification and supplement to the interview results.A research conclusion on college students’ online truancy was drawn from the analysis of interview and questionnaire results.This study discussed the online truancy of H University students from five dimensions.First of all,it was found that more than 30% of students have ever had online truancy.Online truancy is related to grade level and course type,not necessarily related to major and grade,the time and duration of students’ online truancy are not regular,and the frequency is relatively low.Second,the modes of online truancy were examined.There are four main types: log in to the online class with one device,and do other things with the other device,run the web conferencing application in the background,switch the class audio to the silent mode and find other students to attend classes instead of themselves,of which the first one accounts for the most.A large number of students use electronic products,engage in leisure and entertainment,sleep and learn other subjects during online truancy,and the least things to do include reading extracurricular books,completing the work of student organizations or clubs,and going out for other things.Third,students were inquired about the experience of online truancy.The results show that college students may feel nervous,relaxed,happy,entangled and guilty during online truancy,and their feelings change with time.Fourth,it was found that college students commit online truancy for reasons of themselves,teachers,courses,environment and the network.Personal reasons for online truancy include lack of clear learning goals,weak self-control ability,physical discomfort,irregular routine,lack of interest in learning,bad learning attitude,and being busy with the work of clubs or student organizations.The reason of teachers include low teaching efficiency,boring teaching method,lack of interaction and supervision,asking too simple questions,and providing class playback and course resources.In terms of courses,students who commit online truancy may believe the course is too difficult,boring,unpractical,or the examination is too easy.The environmental factor includes the tendency of being affected by others,lack of learning atmosphere,and too many students in the class.Network lag is also a reason for online truancy.The most particular reason for online truancy of college students is their irregular routine.Reasons for online truancy of students at different grades are basically the same.Fifth is the impact of online truancy,it has both negative and positive effects..These effects from such perspectives as learning,confidence and teacher-student relationship.Specifically,they have the freedom of time,the ability to learn more important things,the disadvantage of knowledge acquisition and expansion,the disadvantage of progress in grades,the difficulty of concentrating,the blow to self-confidence,and the bad impression left by teachers.Based on the above findings,this study proposed five suggestions to enhance online teaching efficiency.First,students should improve their self-control ability,set clear learning goals,and develop a correct learning attitude.Second,teachers should enhance their teaching and classroom management abilities,increase the regulation of online teaching.Third,strengthening teaching management,optimize examination and evaluation methods,ensure fairness in examinations.Fourth,a favorable environment also plays a vital role.Students and faculty are required to dress in a standard manner and to choose a place to teach that is suitable for learning as much as possible.Fifth,more stable network facilities should be provided.A stable network must be guaranteed during online teaching to avoid network lag. |
