As an important part of teaching and learning,homework is closely related to teachers’teaching and students’ development.In essence,the process of completing homework is also a learning activity.By investigating the situation of homework assignment of middle and high grade mathematics teachers in primary schools,this study reveals the problems existing in homework assignment of middle and high grade mathematics teachers in primary schools,analyzes the causes,and further proposes improvement strategies.In order to achieve the purpose of the research,this paper is based on constructivism theory,multiple intelligences theory and self-efficacy theory,and it also refer to the existing homework research.I compiled a teacher questionnaire that is focused on the purpose,difficulty,type,quantity,correction and evaluation of homework assignment of middle and high grade mathematics teachers in primary schools and then it was conducted on middle and senior mathematics teachers of Y Primary school in Yangzhou City to understand the current situation of math homework assignment in middle and senior primary schools.After analyzing and sorting out the results of the questionnaire,I also interviewed some mathematics teachers to further understand the specific situation of homework assignment,so it can provide some ideas for the further analysis of the causes of problems and the proposal of optimization strategies.Through investigation,it is found that there are mainly the following problems in mathematics homework assignment in middle and high grades of primary schools:Homework function orientation is single.Homework difficulty is lack of hierarchy.Homework type is single.The amount of homework is excessive.Homework correction subject and evaluation methods lack of diversity.The main reasons are as follows:Teachers’view of homework is biased.Their understanding of the "double reduction" policy needs to be deepened.Their professional skills need to be improved.The differences of individual students are ignored.Teachers are affected by exam-oriented education.Under the guidance of relevant theories and combining with interviews with some teachers,I put forward the following optimization strategies to solve these problems:First,teachers should update the concept of homework;Second,teachers should assign h omework in different layers.Third,teachers should enrich the types of homework;Fourth,teachers should reduce the amount of homework;Fifth,homework correction subject and evaluation methods should be diversified.
