| The Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)lists the concept of modeling as one of the nine core qualities of the junior high school mathematics curriculum,which emphasizes that "mathematical modeling is a fundamental way to connect mathematics with reality".The introduction of this concept has made mathematical modeling a hot topic of research in secondary mathematics education.Mathematical modeling is a carrier for the cultivation of applied talents and an important way to stimulate students’ interest in learning mathematics and to develop their innovative and practical abilities,which contains a high educational value.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to carry out research on mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school.The purpose of this study is to investigate the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school,to propose solutions to the problems in mathematical modeling teaching,and to provide reference and basis for promoting the development and practice of mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school in the future.Firstly,the literature research method is used to sort out and summarize the current status of research on mathematical modeling teaching in middle schools at home and abroad,and to explain the theoretical basis of this research.Secondly,the textual analysis method is used to study the curriculum standards and mathematics textbooks,to clarify the specific requirements of the curriculum standards for mathematical modeling,and to clarify the knowledge base and presentation characteristics of the mathematical modeling contents in the textbooks.Again,we investigate the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school from two levels: students’ "learning" and teachers’ "teaching",and use questionnaires and test papers to understand the real situation of students’ mathematical modeling learning.The current situation of teachers’ implementation of mathematical modeling.Finally,based on the above survey data and interview results,the main problems in the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school are revealed comprehensively,and effective and feasible teaching suggestions are proposed for the problems.The textual analysis of mathematical modeling teaching content in junior high school reveals that mathematical modeling runs through the entire junior high school mathematics textbook and curriculum standards,and the mathematical modeling content in the textbook provides rich materials and knowledge structures for mathematical modeling teaching,and its specific content presents the following characteristics:(1)mathematical modeling content focuses on the field of number and algebra;(2)mathematical modeling content presentation conforms to students’ cognitive rules;(3)the mathematical modeling content follows the principle of spiraling upward;(4)the integrated and practical course content highlights the attributes of mathematical modeling.Through analyzing the results of student questionnaires,test papers and teacher interviews,the current situation of mathematical modeling teaching in junior high school is obtained as follows:(1)on the whole,teachers and students have a certain understanding of mathematical modeling and have a positive attitude toward the value of mathematical modeling;(2)the level of students’ mathematical modeling ability is generally at the lower level of Level 2,and fewer students have a higher level of mathematical modeling ability;(3)teachers carry out mathematical modeling There are dilemmas in teaching,which are reflected in less theoretical support for mathematical modeling teaching,weaker information technology level of teachers themselves,and insufficient support for teachers to carry out modeling activities.Based on the above research,the main problems in the current junior high school mathematical modeling teaching are:(1)students’ awareness of mathematical modeling is weak and lack of initiative in modeling learning;(2)students’ ability level of mathematical modeling is low and their self-confidence in solving modeling problems is insufficient;(3)teachers’ advanced educational philosophy is slow to update and their teaching methods are homogeneous;(4)the general environment does not pay enough attention to mathematical modeling,and teachers lack theoretical guidance to carry out modeling teaching.In view of the above problems,this study proposes three aspects of mathematical modeling teaching content selection,students’ mathematical modeling learning,and teachers’ mathematical modeling teaching. |
