Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between physical activity and academic procrastination, while considering the influence of academic self-efficacy as a mediating variable, and considering these three variables in this study makes the impact path of physical exercise on academic procrastination clearer. In addition, the current situation of physical exercise, academic self-efficacy and academic procrastination is described, and the differences between the three research variables such as gender, household registration, and grade are discussed, which provides a theoretical basis for improving the physical exercise behavior and physical exercise of primary school students. Methods: In this study,568 students in the upper primary grades were surveyed to investigate the physical exercise behavior and learning delay time of upper primary school students by using questionnaires such as "Academic Self-efficacy Scale" and "Academic Procrastination Scale",combined with the current situation of physical exercise behavior of upper primary school students, and discussed the relationship between physical exercise frequency, time, intensity and self-efficacy of primary school students, and between learning delay and physical exercise. The collected data were preliminarily sorted out by excel, and then the data were statistically analyzed using SPSS27.0 and Process4.1,and the informative description of the data was expressed by mean ± standard deviation(M ± SD),the differences in physical exercise, learning procrastination behavior and academic self-efficacy of students of different genders were compared with independent sample T test, and the differences in physical exercise, learning procrastination behavior and academic self-efficacy of students of different grades were analyzed by one-way ANOVA.The Bonferroni method was used for multiple comparisons after the fact. The correlation between variables was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis and mediation effect analysis.Research results:(1)Taking exercise intensity as the independent variable, academic procrastination as the dependent variable, and academic self-efficacy as the mediating variable, the total effect, direct effect and mediating path effect were not significant(95% confidence interval contains 0),and physical exercise intensity had no significant effect on academic delay, let alone the influence of academic self-efficacy as the mediating variable.(2)Taking exercise time as an independent variable, academic procrastination as the dependent variable, and academic self-efficacy as the mediating variable, exercise time had a significant negative impact on academic procrastination(95% confidence interval,CI: [-0.170,-0.044]),and in its impact path, exercise time could not directly affect academic procrastination(95% confidence interval contains 0),but could indirectly negatively affect academic procrastination through academic self-efficacy(95% CI: [-0.129 to-0.022]).In summary,it can be considered that with the increase of exercise time, academic procrastination, although not directly reduced, will decrease due to the intervention of academic self-efficacy.(3)Taking exercise frequency as the independent variable, academic procrastination as the dependent variable, and academic self-efficacy as the mediating variable, the total effect was not significant(95% confidence interval contains 0),that is,exercise frequency has no significant effect on learning delay, and its direct effect is not significant(95% confidence interval contains 0).However,exercise frequency can indirectly influence student academic procrastination(95% confidence interval,CI: [-0.110 to-0.015]),which can be achieved by improving students’ self-efficacy.Although the overall and direct effects were not significant, academic procrastination could be reduced by increasing exercise frequency and thus academic self-efficacy.Conclusions:(1)The higher the frequency of physical exercise, the longer the exercise time, the lower the learning procrastination, the stronger the learning self-efficacy,that is,it is indicated that the student’s learning procrastination behavior can be improved by increasing the frequency and time of physical exercise, and the learning self-efficacy can be enhanced.(2)Physical exercise intensity has no correlation with learning procrastination and learning self-efficacy,so there is no need to increase the intensity too much in the training and teaching process.(3)Learning self-efficacy plays a part in the effect of physical exercise on learning procrastination,so it can reduce students’ learning procrastination by enhancing students’ learning self-efficacy,and encourage students with more praise in daily life.
