Since the promulgation of the General High School Language Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition),whole-book reading has gradually become a hot topic in the language education community.Whole-book reading can better promote students’ language,thinking,culture,and aesthetic development because of its holistic and integrated nature.The development of the times and the requirements of the standards require that whole book reading be implemented into authentic teaching situations.However,the actual use of whole book reading seems to be unsatisfactory due to many limitations in teaching environment and teaching level.Therefore,this paper attempts to sort out the origin of whole book reading teaching theory,investigate its application,analyze the causes and propose corresponding strategies.The study consists of three chapters,with the introduction describing the significance of the study,the current status of the study,and the research method.The first chapter defines the definition of whole book reading.The second chapter compares the development and change of the whole book reading teaching theory.The third chapter investigates the current situation of whole book reading among junior high school students,analyzes its causes and proposes corresponding strategies.This paper analyzes the transmutation of whole-book reading teaching theory,investigates the practical application of whole-book reading teaching theory by using questionnaires,interviews,and bibliometrics,and uses the compulsory reading book "Chaohuaxi" in the first book of the seventh grade as an example for teaching design.Taking the famous books in the current ministry edition language textbooks as the starting point and junior high school students as the research objects,we investigate and analyze the current situation of whole book reading teaching,summarize the reasons from both students’ and teachers’ perspectives,and propose corresponding strategies.In order to promote the implementation of whole book reading teaching in middle school language teaching.
